    Tetratec Ex 1200

These filters kick out some serious current. A 35G is going to be like a wirl pool. If you've really got a betta in the tank, it's going to struggle big time.

    How Fast Do Bgk's Grow?

Mine went from 4" to 13" in about 2 yrs. He has slowed down growing length wise, but is getting bigger and beefier as quickly as ever. Is it in a 55G? UKG? You might be OK for 12 months, then you're going to have to trade it in, get a bigger tank, or hurt it by keeping it.

    Small Tank

If you want cheap, you need second hand. In the last couple of years I've paid £10 for a 29UK, £40 for a 60G and £100 for a 125G. £35-55 for a jam jar is ridiculous.

    1,100 L ( Or Maybe 600 L ) Amazon Tank Build

And 20-30 RLTBs in a 600L will be really shoe horning them in. I'd not go more than 10.

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

Right, Brad is starting to show symptoms. Medicating with Myxasin now in addition to Interpet 8.

    Mixing Meds

I've been struggling with some sort of infection (see coldwater section) and whilst I'm inclined to believe it's fungal I am not sure it's not bacterial. I'm away for a couple of days so tempted to treat for both. I've lost one fish, the other looks pretty healthy- so far. Very slight...

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

Right, 90% water change, and remedicate. Not the time you want to suck start an Eheim but if you reduce the water level without switching it off then that's what happens. The filter is periodically spewing out these bunches of what I can only describe as spores. I'm now away until Sunday which...

Clown Loach In A Tank With Ich?

I'd leave the meds in there until they get water changed out naturally. Make sure you up the temp to 80, but only after you've medicated. The whole thing should be done and dusted inside a week. Incidentally I've used interpet anti whitespot successfully on clown loaches at half dose.

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

Damn it, she's dead. First fish lost to disease in 20 years. Ah Bo*****s! Wish I'd tried a salt bath now. I suspect the gill damage was already done though. That was fast- less than 48 hours from first signs to death, the latter 24 of them under treatment. Let's hope the treatment stops Brad...

Huge Huntsman Trying To Get My Fish!

That is not nice, at all. Craziness photographing that too, what if it decided it wanted your face for dinner?! I feel sick.

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

0, 0, 60 on the stats, 0, 0, 30 tapwater. Have treated with Interpet #8 and melafix, did not salt bath. Will see where we are in 24 hrs, if not looking measurably better in 48 will add carbon, strip out the meds and start again with antibacterial. Thanks for the advice.

    Goldfish Not Doing Well

If it is a fancy goldfish, don't give them flakes or pellets for a few days- try blanched (boiled for a few seconds) veg instead- shelled peas, cucumber, or lettuce. Constipation is a common cause of swim bladder problems in fancies I believe. Repeat every week. In the immediate, perhaps don't...

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

This is getting bad apparently. My girlfriend at home says it's much worse. She's bleeding from her dorsal fin which is completely ragged, and coughing up white spores in big chunks. I'm treating fungal as soon as I get home, but do I salt bath her for a few mins?

    380l Community Tank

Nightmare. Have you left it running on full blast for a while (like 15 mins) and tested it again? There may be some build up of material in the hose itself if you've not been using it much. I use a hose from the kitchen sink as it goes. Glad all you lost is a couple of shrimp. Prepare to lose...

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

Cheers black angel. Think I'll buy a range of meds as going shopping during business hours is difficult. Will check stats later.

    Sound Vs Fish

I killed 5 of a shoal of 6 red line torpedo barbs by playing loud music in the middle of the night. The rest of the community were fine. TV has never been a problem and they were right next to it.

I had hoped to avoid cross posting, but I need to treat my fish in the next few hours so please could I refer anyone who may be able to assist, to my thread in the coldwater section?

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

I'm not going to cross post, but yes you're right I almost did post in tropical emergencies. I'll be treating for bacterial tomorrow unless I hear otherwise. Was kind of hoping for a response before I go to work in the morning (08:00 GMT) so we'll see if the other side of the world can help...

Ill Chinese Fancy Goldfish- Fungal/bacterial Infection?

Hi There, I have two fancy Chinese goldfish, and have had them for about two weeks. Janet (don't ask), is not well. She has been moping about since we first got her, never quite as active as Brad. Today she really wasn't looking too perky, so I've had a closer look. She has this white whispy...

    One Filter For Two Tanks

Problem with that response evilchild is Fluval make little internal filters that wheeze a tiny trickle of water out, and massive externals that you could filter the Med with. What model Fluval? Aside from anything else, I can't see how you'd get an "in" and an "out" into both tanks without some...

    Christmas Lights On Your Tank?

Send me some tinsel and I'll put it on my monster tank in the living room and post a photo up for you :P Ps. You also need a very understanding better half, as I do.

    Changing To Bigger Aquarium

Forget the water and gravel- it's the filter you want to move over to be fine. If you're buying a new filter or have one with the bigger tank, then run it on the old tank for a few weeks before the move.

    Coldwater Tank

They are just as easy to take care of- but you cannot mix tropical and cold (as I found out many moons ago- was OK for a while but it speeds up the metabolisms of the goldies and they eat everything and grow really fast). You are already finding out with your initial stocking problems, the...

    Coldwater Tank

More fancies, some Danios possibly, and some species of plecostomus would be fine. You can also get these little alien face hugger looking things that I can't recall the name of. There is a whole coldwater section on the board, go have a browse in there. Ps Unless you've got a whole separate...

    380l Community Tank

Ian has got a mature filter in another tank that is already handling all the bioload of the fish that are going to be moved. No reason to delay- in fact it is important that Ian does move all his fish at the same time as his filter. Nice one on the thread Ian, and nice tank. Look forward to...

    I Love Petsmart!

I suspect this may be my last post on the topic as I've said all I needed to, however you have requested a direct response so here it is. No, it is not OK, but it is the responsibility of the customer to check what they are being charged and what change they are being given. The difference...

    Changing To Bigger Aquarium

By the way, at the risk of telling you something you already know, it is far far easier and less stressful to net fish using a small net to herd the fish into a big net, than it is to chase them round the tank with a single net. If you don't already own two nets go out and get another before...

    Changing To Bigger Aquarium

Well, the only reason I suggest a big change is because you don't want to put the fish in to the middle of a cycle. You could just wait until your stats are normal (stop dosing) and move over the fish and filter in one go. Hope you feel better soon!

    Changing To Bigger Aquarium

Totally unnecessary mate. Put it this way- your Fluval 3 already has sufficient bacteria to process all the waste your fish produce irrespective of which tank they are in, so shift them all over and what's the difference? Just don't add any new fish at the same time. I would stop...

Thinking Of Adding New Fish, what You Guys Think?

You'll be fine with corys. In fact maybe a few more bottom dwellers like yoyo or zebra loaches would go down well, and/or a smaller plec. Top/middle I reckon you're pretty full up.

My New 700 Litre / 155 Uk Gal Aquarium

Getting there now, not many fish left to meet! Here we have Red Stripe, the Red Line Torpedo Barb. Red stripe likes bloodworm and goes mad for flakes. He lives in the middle part of the water around the top of the rock pile or wood. Very very quick, and incredibly skittish. Tricky to catch! He...

My New 700 Litre / 155 Uk Gal Aquarium

Here are the naughty boys of the tank (although I do not know their genders)! The Yoyo loaches. They are manic little fish always jetting around fast and constantly raiding the crib cave. They are about 3" long, and there are three of them. Despite the fact they are on their own in the photos...

My New 700 Litre / 155 Uk Gal Aquarium

You all know by now the Kribensis family. Mummy Krib and Daddy Krib are about 18 months old, maybe 2. They are 3" and 4" respectively. They like bloodworm, prawn and flake. They live on the left hand side of the tank in their cave made from broken pots (as seen in earlier photos). They are...
