Okay firstly, I don't own, nor do I plan to unless I suddenly get a 200g+ tank, but was curious as to what their growth rate is like? I've seen and heard of 12 inchers but never anything larger, so do they grow really fast up to 12" then slow down, and spend the rest of their life getting to the 50-60 cm mark?

They seem to grow about 1-1.5" per month. (JayJay has one in a 90gall tank which jumped from small to a handsome size rather speedily)

There are a number of specimens on MFK that are over 16" in size, one in particular im sure is past 20"

Mine went from 4" to 13" in about 2 yrs. He has slowed down growing length wise, but is getting bigger and beefier as quickly as ever.

Is it in a 55G? UKG? You might be OK for 12 months, then you're going to have to trade it in, get a bigger tank, or hurt it by keeping it.

Mine went from less than 2" to pushing 9" in the space of around 8 months. I thought they would grow slower, or at least so I was told by a few people.

Lol nah I don't own one, am trying to discourage a friend from buying one.

Thanks for that, truthfully would love to keep one, but my parents would freak over such a large tank (I have a thing about keeping fish in their "minimum" tank size, usually they end up in something much larger) Oh well I can still dream LOL.

Yep, misread that one, my apologies.

Don't know whether this video would encourage or discourage your mate!

My two were bought at about 8". In two years I have had them I would be amazed if they are now above 10".

2" in 2 years? That doesn't seem to mirror my experiences. Fair enough. What are you feeding them? Also, do they live together? I had two together and one stayed a lot smaller, barely growing at all in a year (although it did subsequently grow considerably after I split them).
