I've had mine soaking/in the tank for over 7 weeks now and it still leeches tanins like theres no tomorrow. Suppose they will stop eventually & at least its keeping me fit with the twice weekly water changes :lol: Apart from that I think bogwoods great :good:

Hi, I'm wondering if someone could help me here.....I want to upgrade my filter so that its appropriate for the next tank size up from mine. Although I have the correct size filter currently in my tank I feel its just not powerful enough to do the business. The thing is though I'm not 100% sure...

well ive only ever used gravel with goldfish but i should imagine fish would prefer sand anyway as its more like thier natural environment. Also one of my goldfish once got a piece of gravel stuck in its mouth, which i had to gently ease out with tweezers and it was left slightly deformed :sad...

i siphen just above my sand. personally i think sand is better as muck just sits on top, whereas with gravel it can ease its way through, therefore you need to clean all throughout it. thats from experience anyway.

I have both strips and liquid but I find the liquid gives more easier to read, and more accurate results. The results on both are approximately the same :good:

Thanks iIs only a Fluval 1 Plus, one of the smallest filters Fluval do. I'll keep cleaning the stocking I'm using and may even replace it every so often (if it gets too groggy). I'll also put some of that melafix in as well like you said. Thanks for the re-asurance :good:

I've not yet had a fishy stowaway although I once bought 2 plants but was only charged for the 1 (I realised when I got home to my delight) and a plant I bought at the weekend came with a nice juicy what I think was a clear leech, which I very quickly disposed of :crazy:

I just used xmas wrapping tape for mine. Its not as sticky as normal sellotape (sp) so it won't leave a residue (I hope) :)

For what a bottle of water conditioner costs, its not worth risking it to be honest I use Nutrafin Aqua+ and this also has things in (scientific wordage lol) that de-stresses/relaxes fish, which is a bonus especially if your adding new ones fish to the tank

I would say mine is probably a betta, I think they are stunning & they have different personalities. I don't have one but I will be getting one soon when my tank is finished. I may even buy another tank & get another :look:

I wanted to buy that fine black gravel when setting up my tank but I think lighter/natural looked much better so I decided to get silver sand instead. Look at some pictures of tanks with different coloured gravel/sand in and see if you really want it in your tank. Black will probably will bring...
