Are you allowed to sell fish on eBay only I was quite shocked to see some beautiful Cichlids for sale!

Guess if they are for sale its ok by eBay, but would think you'd have to check the ebay regs themselves to know for sure. The tricky thing with selling live fish over the net is the postage. Royal mail as I'm sure other do have a no 'adult' fish policy, which means you can only send fish fry, now what people call 'fry' is open to debate. Most of the fish shops that do mail order use specialist delivery companies who are used to handling live animals and thus treat them with the care they need.

All that said, you (well me) have to wonder about the stress it causes the fish, I know people have and probably will continue to by fish mail order but for me, I like to see the fish before I buy them to check for disease, etc and just so I can see what they look like!

I've seen rather large fish going on ebay for over £100
I think they may be collection only, although I have seen adult fish being sold with a postage charge

I've bought cichlids off a breeder who sells on Ebay - and they were top notch. As long as they're sent safely (ie well packaged), then there's no difference from ordering offline from a fish shop like Trimar.

YES you can buy and sell Tropical fish on Ebay.

Look Here i have pointed out for you.

Ebay allows fish to be sold and as far as i'm awear thats the only animal's allowed on the site.
As said befor you can post "Fry" through Royal mail.

And buying fish this way is handy if your willing to pay the postage.

I have got and sold fish this way in the past and never had a problem.

Reason for buying on ebay is it's far eaiser then looking for a specific species, but i would stick to breeder if possible, as I hate most imported fish and Prefer line breed fish or fish with a history ie collection Data if possible like, with pure endlers.

Always check someone's history and see what people have said about them, if their not reliable then don't bother.....

we sell tropicalfish, and marines now on ebay and have done for years, if you check our feedback you know we are trustworthy :good:

Nope - not fish - even fry - are allowed to be sent "legally" via Royal Mail. Very much illegal. I have spoken to Royal Mail who told me this in person and over the phone. That said ...... many people take a chance anyaway. Reputable sellers will use a fish courier but that costs a minimum of £15 in most cases.

And yes, it's legal to sell live fish on eBay.

Statement to PFK about posting fish via royal mail

What can you send by post?
James Taylor in their Press Office told me: "The vast majority of living creatures are prohibited from being sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, or any other postal service that we offer. Some living creatures, such as earthworms, can be sent, but not fish. There is a full list of prohibited creatures on the A-Z section of our website."

The statement on Royal Mail's website says: "Certain living creatures are accepted only if enclosed in packs constructed so as to prevent injury to Parcelforce Worldwide staff, its agents or damage to other parcels. The following are accepted: bees; silkworms; leeches and certain parasites, destroyers of noxious pests, other insects sent to or from officially recognised institutions, mealworms, earthworms, caterpillars, ragworms, pupae and chrysalides, lugworms, maggots and fish fry and eggs. To send any of the above, Parcelforce By 9am, 10am, by noon or Parcelforce 24 services must be used."

OF coure u dont use standed Royal mail but parcelforce with next day delivery, Sorry i should of stated that in the first post.

Thanks for the info I never realised you could buy and sell them on eBay. I have recently purchased plants for my aquariums from eBay and I have to say they have saved me a lot of money. My LFS sells them for £10 for 5 bunches but on eBay I got 25 for £5 and today I bought 50 for £11.00 :hyper:

I've noticed a lot of people selling their whole tank setup include their fish as well. Usually when people are moving or whatever and can't keep them anymore - so they sell the whole lot together.

Yes, when I was new to the hobby of keeping fish I went looking on 'ebay' and found a lot of tanks with thier filters and heaters with them.

I've just ordered some fish off ebay. They are being delivered on a specified day by Citilink overnight courier £10. The seller has excellent feedback and has been in contact personally to arrange delivery, as obviously the fish will need to be signed for. I've never ordered fish mail order before, so we'll see how they are. Fingers crossed they will be okay.
