    Angels With Shoaling Fish

There is a chance that Neons or Cardinals might get eaten. I had Bleeding Heart Tetras with my Angels.

This Weeks' "off Topic" Topic (26/03/12)

I suppose in this particular case, I don't really care. If she wants to sleep around and cheat on her husband, it's not not my problem. If it was someone close to me it might be a different story. I was cheated on by someone I was engaged to, so I guess I am quite sensative to the situation.

This Weeks' "off Topic" Topic (26/03/12)

Interesting one this.... I work in a small office. One of the ladies here has been having affairs for the past 18 months. When we first noticed this person's behaviour had changed, my boss told the rest of us that it was none of our business and we shouldn't raise the issue with her. Never mind...

I would take Bigsy's offer of some mature media. IMO it's probably the best way forward.

How Long Can A Tank Go Without Water Changes Before All Goes South?

There are also resins available that you can put in your filter that will convert Nitrates to Nitrogen and will then gas out of the tank. Also seem to remember reading somewhere that there are products that contain denitrifying bacteria which will do a similar thing. I have never used them so...

Well if you want the Oscar and Convicts, you will have to get rid of the others.

Plec Does Not Eat On The Glass?

Not all Plecs will eat algae. Even Bristle Noses. I have had some that weren't interested in the algae at all. I find my bulldog/Chaetostoma to be much better algae eaters.

    New L114

Mine does eat some fresh vegetables when I put it in the tank for my other Plecs. But they are primarily carnivores - minced fish, prawn, bloodworm, sinking pellets etc

Interesting to see a Bichir and the Channalabes type catfish.

New Weekly "off Topic" Topic (12/03/12)

I had the following situation a few weeks ago. I took some fish back to my lfs and they gave me some credit. At the same visit, my kids wanted some more fish, so we chose a few. The person who helped me wrote the price of the fish on the bag - the net amount - total of fish less the credit they...

    Which Puffer To Choose

Figure Eight Puffers need brackish conditions. The South American Puffers are nice. But the Red Eyed Puffers are fantastic if you can get them.
  12. S

    Reedfish/ropefish

I would say yes. If not now, that when it gets bigger. Round fish are safer with Reedfish. Elongated ones are easier to swallow. You should also keep Reeds in groups of 3+. It will be happier and less inclined to escape.

    Pop-Eye? Flashing!, Pale Kuhli.

Is it filter safe? If so, it should be ok. The product I use in the UK, Esha 2000 is green, but that fades over a few hours. You could use carbon in your filter afterwards to get rid of any colouring at a later stage. Maybe Ebay?

    Mekong Sole Fish

Very nice. I have always wanted one a fresh water sole. But I have never bought one, on the basis that the lfs often sell the brackish species as fresh, and I don't want to get one without being 100% certain it is a fresh species.

    Electric Yellow Cichlid

No, Don't mix Malawis with other tropicals. It will not end well, and is not fair to the fish. Water parameters requirements are different, diet is different.
  16. S

    Pop-Eye? Flashing!, Pale Kuhli.

Flashing is usually a sign of some sort of skin parasite. It could also be affecting the gills. Go to your lfs and see if they have medication for this - should do.

    Columnaris Or Something Else?

I find the Plec family seem quite suseptable to skin parasites. I would treat with Esha 2000.

Maybe Starting A Cichlid Tank Help

Yup, dems are not really a beginners fish. Very aggressive, and should be kept in groups of 10+ ideally.
  19. S

    Malawis

A corner tank isn't the ideal shape for Malawis. When a persecuted fish is being chased it needs to flee out of the other fish's territory. In a standard shaped tank, it can swim down to the other end. In a corner tank, it can't. When I resumed fish keeping 5 years ago I started with a Malawi...

    Fish Chaos

I think you are going to have to rehome the Krib. The Kissing Gourami will get too big for your tank. As will the Reed Fish (which is from Africa btw), and which also do much better in small groups. The Barb and Cory will also be happier with more of its kind.

    Can You Keep Corys With...

No, Pims aren't suitable either. The Rift Valley Synodontis are the best bet.

Help! My Malawis Are Dying One By One

I agree. Columnarus typicaly doesn't behave like this. I would also guess that it's some sort of poisoning. Ammonia is an option. Either from a dead fish rotting, or from the filter being compromised.

A Rational Discussion On Oxygen Transfer From An Airstone Bubble

Not scientfic proof, but more practical experience. A few years ago, I check on my fish one morning to find most of them gasping at the surface. At the time I had an overstocked Malawi tank. Fortunately it was the weekend, so I rushed to my lfs, bought an airpump and airstone and fitted it to...

    Ro Water Changes, How Ofter

Unless you are using some sort of resin, or other product to remove the nitrates, there should be some hint of it. I would do a water change at least once a week. When you do a wc, you are not only removing the nitrates, but there are other chemicals, hormones etc that the fish put into the...

Help! My Malawis Are Dying One By One

What ich treatment have you used? Esha 2000 will treat ich and other skin parasites (which is what columnaris is). I must say though, that I find it strange that that all your fish have it at once. I would expect one or two fish to have it and then pass it around the tank. (That's what...

Common Pleco In A Planted Tank?

Yup, that Plec has been in a tank that was far too small for it. Planted tank and Plec are not going to work. It will eat some of the plants. And those that it doesn't it will possibly uproot. They are very clumsy and will costantly forage on the substrate disturbing the plants.

    Complete Disaster Tonight

Sorry to hear of your loss. If you are doing a 20%-30% wc one a week, I don't see why you need to be doing such a big wc every 6 weeks. Also, such a big change in 1 go is going to put the system under a lot of strain and subject the fish to a big swing in parameters.

If you get on with them, why don't you knock on their door and politely ask them to refrain from parking in front of your house. On the other hand, you could park in front of their house and p*ss them off too! :fun:
