i smell a bit of a liar here...unless it isnt a betta you have and you think it is. because there have been no known records of bettas living past 6 years or getting that big..sounds like a fairy tale..id love to someday see a betta that big lol

what most likely happened is he got it snagged on something, it split but never healed all the way down. using salt is good even if he isnt sick it will prevent diseases. you can buy a box of aquarium salt at walmart for like a dollar in the fish section..and you add one teaspoon per 10...

id agree with everyone and say move him to his own tank, a one gallon atleast..2.5 would be great. you may think he is doing fine now, but it could take weeks for him to show agression towards the neons, it all depends on the mood he is in that day..i would seriously think about moving him, so...

yep hes definetley a veil tail, but his bottom fin looks split in two..maybe add some aquarium salt to his bowl. is he eating and stuff alright?

use BETTAMAX..not BETTAFIX, as bettafix is just a diluted melafix and is not good for bettas, it had been known to kill them. bettamax is the one that is loaded with vitamins and helpful agents. just remember some people get the 2 mixed up and bettamax is the one to get, it comes in a capsule...

Well this post is a little late since I got him last week, but I wanted to make sure he made it before I posted anything about him, because he didnt seem to be doing well when I first got him. I was surprised to find him at my lfs with all the regular bettas..he was hiding in a middle of a stack...

aww what a horrible thing, I am really sorry you lost your bird. I have a quaker parrot and wouldnt know what id do if he died. What kind of bird was he?if he was small then the blood loss could have got him, he could have been too weak..poor thing. sorry again :-(

wow very unique looking..are those stripes from her being stressed..or just a natural coloring? id like to see her when she is settled in more..good find. I only spotted females at my walmart once and thats where i got mine,my walmart is good with their bettas as well.

you should always quarentine fish before adding them to a community tank, especially bettas because they are so delicate and prone to diseases..sorry about your losses but I hope you learned a good lesson from it too :sad: :-(

add another to the list, cause i was gonna ask the same question! lol. ive always wondered how people clean there tanks with sand for substrate..wouldnt the sand go up the syphon? very curious and interested!

I wouldnt say its normal behavior..he could be lethargic and very stressed..and mabye thats why he was swimming in the morning after a night of relaxing. Is he eating ok? if hes eating good and swimming fine now, I wouldnt worry about him, he could have just taken a while to adjust :)

oh wow..I enjoyed hearing your experience with breeding them..that is really weird I have never heard of a female building the nest, then luring the male under it. maybe she is just dominant lol very nice pictures as well..did you get all of these bettas at the same place? or did you order them...

i know, those silk plants are pretty expensive, but go to walmart and check out there fish section. the one near me sells 3 bundles of silk plants for 4 dollars, which is really cheap compared to petco or petsmart.

Well you should never put plastic plants in with a betta..unless its a female and her fins are really short. As far as I know almost every betta owner knows that (I'm not implying your dumb at all) maybe you just never heard that before. But silk plants are the best as well as real plants, they...

eww..the reason why I hate ladybugs! people think im weird cause i freak out if one flys around me..but its because our house is like a breeding ground for them every spring and we end up getting hundreds in our house..stuck in my hair, etc. creepy lil things

I guess most people dont do their research and read up on the pets they buy. You should never keep male and females together (ONLY for breeding), even if you hear that others have had good experiences (maybe they are lucky, or it could only be temporary) you shouldnt try to keep bettas together...

please do NOT use melafix..you should never use melafix on bettas, it can kill them, bettafix is also not good for them as its a diluted version of melafix. I suggest getting some BettaMax, it should do the trick, that and aquarium salt and frequent water changes and she should be fine.

I agree with all of you about her site. I think its a really great site visually and has some good information on it, but the cost for the bettas are ridiculous..IMO if your such a big time breeder like her with that many bettas, the cost should be a bit lower than average of "high class"...

do you have the proper setup for the breeding IE: 10 gallon tank or larger, sponge filter, live foods for the fry and such?
