why would a company make an aquarium plant capable of ripping/damaging fish???????
the stupidity!!!!!!!!!! :<
i went out and spoiled my fish with 2.5 gallon extra wide vases
in case you don't remember i use to have 2 bettas and 3 ghost shrimp all with their own 2 gallon bowls (the shrimp where together)
then they started to leak and crack all of a sudden
so they were stuck in two 1gallon bowls and a half a gallon bowl :S
well i went out the other day and bought these huge vases that were MADE for water and they were plastic but very clear and very thick (no cracking)
they are deep but also very wide
i set them up and my fish were thrilled! :fish:
they each have a cave (a peice from a stainless steal cream and sugar set  ) and a pretty plant
they looked fantastic, but one of my plants looked a bit sharp
this morning i woke up and fed everyone and i notice that the betta with the pointy plant had snagged and tore his fins in several places

let me tell you,
i'd like to snag and rip the skin off of whomever made them :grr:

Whoa! Do I sense some anger there? Talk about wakening up on the wrong side of the bed there, huh PointyKitty? I am so j.k. with ya.

Alright then Pointy, get your pitch fork, some rocks and a lattern. Off to the manufacturing plant we go. We are gonna have us a good 'ol lynching.

If it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any... Maybe get them each a few stems of a real plant, shouldn't rip them then :D

ALASKA
i had java fern but when the bowls leaked i didn't want to restrict the tiny bit of space in the temporary tiny bowls AND the were in rough shape (the LFS only had half dead ones so they cut me a deal)
so i put them in my tanks temporarily and i'm thinking of keeping them in there til they are in better shape (then they will have a light and food)

Well you should never put plastic plants in with a betta..unless its a female and her fins are really short. As far as I know almost every betta owner knows that (I'm not implying your dumb at all) maybe you just never heard that before. But silk plants are the best as well as real plants, they wont hurt their delicate fins. I also think its stupid that manufacturers make those rough jagged plastic plants, but they are cheaper to make I suppose.

I just went thru the same thing,pk. My pretty red butterfly male got ALL snagged up on a tiny piece of plastic plant. I got mad and threw it in the trash.

your right, i have never heard of that before
i have never had this problem before, although i never buy jagged plants,
my little brother bought it for me as a gift and i, not knowing it would do any harm, used it in one of the betta bowls

i tried to get one of those realistic plants with soft material leaves buy one plant was like $12!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

i just spent a pretty penny on their knew bigger containers too! :X
AND i have to but a new light for one of my tanks
i'm goin' broke for the next couple of weeks :S

i know, those silk plants are pretty expensive, but go to walmart and check out there fish section. the one near me sells 3 bundles of silk plants for 4 dollars, which is really cheap compared to petco or petsmart.

nope
i'm from a very small town where our walmart is probably the size of one of your gas stations
no live fish, no live plants, no silk plants
their plant/decoration section is VERY small :dunno:

Well PK, if it makes you feel better in Cali our Wal-marts are the size of car warehouses. :p  I am teasing ya PK, but they really are big

oh yeah, our walmarts in california, us, massive ... but their tanks are so badly maintained :( I wanna save all their fish but I'm not knowledged enough about this hobby to do that and its probably not a good idea lol

i had my first two bettas in tanks with plastic plants though they never tore their fins

I kind of realized they could hurt the fish and removed them before they hurt themselves

couldn't he just add some cheap anacharis bunches if he really wants plants that bad? here they go for like $2 for a heaping bunch.
