Guppy swimming vertically when not moving

I only bought it earlier this year, but perhaps it had been in the fish shop for a while? Maybe it’s the tail like you say. It seems to be fine for a bit and then starts doing it again. Perhaps I’m over worried about it! ?

Guppy swimming vertically when not moving

One of my guppies appears to be reverting to a vertical position when not swimming. The photo attached shows what I’m referring to, although this doesn’t just happen at the top of the tank. Could this be swim bladder?

    Feeding Platy Fry

Hi all, This morning when cleaning my tank I noticed three baby platys. I’ve made a temporary fry trap by cutting holes into a plastic bottle, and floating it in the tank. I’ve ordered a proper solution which should arrive over the next few days. I’m wondering what the best thing to feed them...

    Changing Canister Filter Media

Hi all! I have a Fluval 207 canister filter, and the manual recommends replacing media on a monthly basis (but not at once). Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of how often this should be done? When I used to have an in tank filter, I rarely changed the sponges etc... Thanks!

    Tetra isolating itself

Yes I did :) Unfortunately it was only a couple of small sponges, as I only switched to the canister filter with the aquarium upgrade 3 weeks ago. The sponge I transferred was from my small Interpet PF2 filter.

    Tetra isolating itself

Just a bit on edge as my filter packed up yesterday. Have been getting a replacement going today.

    Tetra isolating itself

Thanks for the speedy response :) I started reading about Tetra disease and started worrying it was that. I guess more symptoms would appear if it was something like that. Thank you!

    Tetra isolating itself

I have four young emperor tetra, and three adult fire tetra. I noticed this evening that one of the emperor tetra keeps floating on its own at the top of the tank. Every now and again, it joins the others but then splits off again. Should I be concerned / am I worried unnecessarily? Thanks.

    AquaOne Oscellaris 850 stopped working

I’ll give them a call tomorrow. Might order a replacement in the meantime. I’ve left the remaining media sat in tank water in the canister. Do you reckon it will survive, or will it die due to lack of oxygen? Thank you!

    AquaOne Oscellaris 850 stopped working

I took the impeller out and put it back in, but no luck. The unit feels fairly hot, which makes me thing it could be related to the motor? I guess any bacteria in the canister will be now lost - with the exception of the small amount of media I removed? Thanks!

    AquaOne Oscellaris 850 stopped working

Hi! I have an Oscellaris 850 canister filter, however this afternoon I realised it had stopped working. Luckily I had a spare Interpet PF2 filter in the cupboard, which although isn’t designed to work effectively in a 150 litre tank, should do the job. I transferred some of the sponge from the...

    Hyperactive Tetra

It’s okay, it’s crystal clear - light must have affected the camera making it appear brown :)

    Hyperactive Tetra

I have three fire tetra, and bought an additional four cardinal tetra which are really young. I don’t have a water testing kit at the moment, and was worried that they were stressed. Thank you!

    Hyperactive Tetra

My fire tetra seem to be a lot more active, darting up and down in the tank since I upgraded two weeks ago. Is this normal behaviour? Thanks!

Thanks guys!! Huge help. Will start by increasing the light slightly each day as you say. Hopefully that will start improving the situation.

    Brown spots on plant

Hi, I purchased a new plant two weeks ago, however it appears to be developing brown spots. I’m not sure if this is normal for this type of plant but wanted to check (photo attached). I currently have the aquarium light on for 4 hours a day, have a canister filter and run a bubble wall for about...

    Aquarium Upgrade

Huge help, thanks so much! Okay, so I’ll remove the sponge and retire the old filter in that case. I like the idea of splitting it across two segments. I guess that would then help bacteria spread to the different sections more quickly? Would you refrain from cleaning the filter compartments for...

    Aquarium Upgrade

Would it therefore make sense to try and fit the sponge in the old filter into one of the canister filter’s sections, and then switch the old filter off?

    Aquarium Upgrade

    That is correct! :)

    Aquarium Upgrade

The old (seeded) filter is an Interpet PF2, and contains what looks like a black carbon sponge. The new Oscellaris 850 canister filter contains a mixture of sponges, and a wool top layer: (https://www.aquarium-parts.co.uk/aquavogue-135-spares/aqua-one-ocellaris-850-canister-filter.html). Thanks!

    Aquarium Upgrade

Okay brilliant, thank you! So cut a bit off the already seeded sponge, and put it in one of the canister sections?
  32. R

    Aquarium Upgrade

Thank you! I’ve just checked, and there is unfortunately only one sponge in the filter. Is it worth me putting a sponge at the back of the aquarium to collect bacteria, and then putting that in the filter in a week - or will this make no difference? If not, I can leave both going for a month or...

    Aquarium Upgrade

Hi, firstly thanks for coming back with this helpful response! I’ll fill it up later in that case. Really good to know. I’ve also ordered an ammonia test kit, so should be able to monitor levels over the coming days. The fish numbers are staying the same for now, as I want to give the new tank...

    Aquarium Upgrade

Hi all. This weekend I upgraded my 70l tank to 150l. I used new gravel but transferred the old filter, some driftwood and a couple of plants from the old aquarium. I’ve now also started a larger canister filter which I’m running in parallel to allow it to seed. I’ve so far used most of the...

    Gravel and Soil

I’m in the process of upgrading my aquarium to a 150l tank, and am starting from scratch with the base. I have Marina black gravel, and ahead of laying it, I’m wondering whether I should put some form of soil / substrate which has nutrients below the gravel in locations where I’m putting plants...

    Filter Issues

If I transfer the media from the old filter would it not kill a lot of bacteria? The old filter is a Superfish 100 and the new filter is an Interpet PF2. Thanks.
