As per the title. I want something quite large (roughly half the size of a Rio 240) which is really rooty for the fish to swim around and the plants to grow through.

The spray bar on it's own is about 30cm long, and if my 2071 is anything to go buy you'll be mightily impressed with this filter. :good:

I have just taken delivery of an Eheim 2071 (Pro 3 - 250) and it only has 2 baskets, not 3 like I thoight. :blush: So which one of the medis do I not use? It come with Mech pro and Substrat pro but I'm concerned that it doesn't take biomech. What should I do, leave it out of split it with one...

Oops, got the hang of what they are and what they do now. :blush: I'm going to try and find 2 X 250 l/h powerheads if possible, should disturb the fish less and give a more even flow rate cover across the tank. Sound good?

I've got a very big piece in soak, it's been there 2 weeks now and I change the boiled water every 2 days. It's still leaching a bit but as I'm in no hurry it doesn't matter.

So I should be OK light wise then, maybe upgrade to T5's later? I've been looking at powerheads today and all of them seem lower than what the filter is capable of. Do I need to get a pump as well then?

The tank is a Rio 240, the lights are 2 X 38W and they both have reflectors fitted. Will read it tonight. :good: Both filters are being replaced with Eheim 2071's, I'm changing the 104 first and giving it 6 - 8 weeks to get nicely cycled then I'll replace the 304 with a 2071 also. The Eheims...

A couple of questions on substrate. I currently have gravel and would like to change it to sand (better for the bottom dwellers that I seem to like a lot, plus I believe better for planting?) is there a relatively simple way to change it or is it a full empty etc? If it is a full empty etc...

Hi Pauline, Where abouts are you? Maybe someone on here can help you with media for your filter, and temporarily re-homing your fish until your tank is cycled properly.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have attached them both ways for different plants, I obviously haven't given them enough time yet. One of the plants roots are going round the bogwood and not into it, that's why I was getting a little unsure.

I planted a few Anubias a few weeks ago by tieing/elastic banding them to bogwood, I was told by the LFS to do this. None of them have shown signs of rooting to the bogwood yet, so I'm wondering should they go in the substrate instead?

Funny you say that. I got the Peppered Cat fish to keep him company but they don't seem to mix. I was going to get a couple more Cory's so he has some friends but got a bit concerned about stocking and having too many bottom feeders. I'll get it sorted ASAP.

Thanks for the info. :good: I have been feeding the fish tablets (as part of a mixed diet) and watching the small particles that get swished up by the fishes fins to see how the flow goes. It seems to be circulating fairly well, I'll look out for any still pockets tonight.

I've been after an Eheim filter and have been told by an official importer that the ProII's are discontinued and are being replaced by the Pro III's. Not all Pro III's are electronic either (as suggested by a post further up) there is the Pro IIIe series.

OK so I have the old T8 unit on mine, what would be a good T5 unit to replace it with, a 2 tube unit of course. I know that Jewel do one but there seems to be a lot of trouble with their light units, is there another make which is better and will fit straight on?
