Waiting For Fish To Come In The Mail

That is correct...though the one that I suspect is blue is nearly 100% gray ATM. Poor guy.

Waiting For Fish To Come In The Mail

I did (I win! ;)). I have an orange guy, a copper looking BF guy, a blue guy, and a red guy...I think. We'll see though. They're, obviously, still in that very shocky stage.

Waiting For Fish To Come In The Mail

I'm waiting toooooo....mine are supposed to be here by 3. Boy, I'll be ticked if they don't come. I think they will though. :P THEY JUST CAME!~!!!!! :D

Do You Use A Substrate, Or Not?

The reason I asked this question is because the other night I was strongly scolded for using any sort of substrate in my tanks. The reasoning behind it was that since we turn our filters down to reduce the current, we aren't actually filtering the tank like normal, and therefore a harmful...

    I'm Getting New Fishesssss! :)

So, as many of you saw in the previous thread, I adopted 4 new HM guys. They're on their way to me RIGHT NOW and will be here Weds! I'm so excited!! The little men came! There's a copper, orange, red, and multi (hopefully he'll grow into that anal fin!)!!! Still getting used to their...

    Unobtrusive Tank Heater?

Walmart sells a small pre-set heater for aquariums from 2 to 5 gallons. It's submersible, and only around $7. Also comes with a suction cup to stick onto the sides. Good luck. I've never heard of a wireless heater though...likely you will have to go the cord route.

Do You Use A Substrate, Or Not?

It seems as though many hard-core breeders are strictly against substrates because 100% water changes can't be performed and they gather bacteria (the bad sort, since we turn our filters down)... Do you use a substrate? Discuss.

    Cant Wait

I don't find it to be any more difficult than a regular undivided tank. Just think of each tank like a mini tank, only the water is shared. Vacuum your gravel, change the water, clean your filter media with the old water, and add new aged-appropriate temperature new water...easy, easy, easy. :)

Lipid Looking Stuff On The Top Of My Water

I went and bought an aquaclear surface skimmer...but I must just be an idiot, b/c I can't get the thing to work. It doesn't come with flipping instructions, only pictures...Augh!

How Do I Tell If My Snail's Dead?

I know...this seems like a dumb question. One of my bettas water turned foggy. Tonight, I noticed her picking at the snail, which was turned over on it's back, and had a bubble-like thing coming out of it's shell. The foot that normally hides the snail didn't move when I removed it from the...

Many Hm And A Few Hmpk For Adoption

You can pay through paypal, which allows you to send a bank draft. No CC needed. :) Now, no one can ever say for sure it's not a scam. I questioned it first too, but then I wrote the OP of the thread on the other forum, and as you can see from what I've posted, she's dealt with him before...

Lipid Looking Stuff On The Top Of My Water

I see. I've never had a marine tank, so didn't really know what the skimmers skimmed. I have activated carbon in the filter as is. It's an aquaclear 20 filter on a 10 gal. So, a surface skimmer just attaches to the intake on my filter? That makes sense. I'll have to go get one. Thank you! :)

Lipid Looking Stuff On The Top Of My Water

Hi everyone. In my 10 gallon divided betta tanks, I've been noticing a lot of lipid-like residues on the top of the water (greasy looking), and am wondering what it's from, and how I can get rid of it. I was thinking it was probably a factor of the divided tanks, plus the filter rate has been...

    Found A Very Funny Video

That's so cute! It looks just like my bf's cabin in WI on the lakes. There was that much snow last time we went up. I took Chloe and she couldn't stand to be outside for more than 3 minutes! Aww...now I'm so sad! Did you read the description? I guess the dog died in a house fire in 1998. :(

How Can I Get Shiva To Eat Pellets?

I swear, she was brought up SOLELY on live foods, because I cannot get her to even look at a pellet. Does anyone have a trick to it? I keep giving them to her...and keep sucking them out after they float to the bottom, uneaten. :\

    Dt Betta

Oh, he's a cutie! I'm the same way...never anything that good at my LFS! One just tried getting HMs in. I went and looked at them...they look like Deltas at best... :(

Many Hm And A Few Hmpk For Adoption

I'm sorry, but you are, likely, wrong. Breeders don't keep their bettas in community tanks. They build divided drip systems, or have them in individual gallon size jars. I house 4 males to a divided 10 gallon tank. A single spawning can product 200 bettas, so this number is not outlandish at...

Many Hm And A Few Hmpk For Adoption

I'm a member on another betta forum, and this was posted in the classifieds portion. I wrote the seller, and he informed me that the breeder is ONLY keeping the fish until this next Sunday. After that they will be euthanized. I asked if he would mind my posting it on this forum, and he said to...

Many Hm And A Few Hmpk For Adoption

Oh no, Monty! $35? Spot it on a CC (normally, I would not recommend racking up the CC debt, but these guys are going to die!) BTW- I asked the OP of the thread on the other forum if she personally knew Sebastien to vouch for him (aka- this isn't a scam, right?), and this is the response I...

    Vt Vs. Vt

I would go for a glass chimney if/when you do. I tried the coke bottle method with one of my females. It just wasn't very heavy, and she wanted out SO bad, that she sliced herself moving it and sliding under it to get out. :(

    The Best Of Aquabid

I don't look at it as supporting that poor care of your LFS, but rather like saving the little guys from it. Like Yuki said, they usually color up greatly once home and out of those little cups.

    4 Fish From Aquabid Came!

You will not believe this. I received an email from the transhipper this morning. My replacement MG Female was DOA. She said only 2 out of 400 this time were DOA, and only 2 out of 395 last time were...and mine was both times. Augh! I feel like giving up!

    The Best Of Aquabid

It's pretty expensive. If you just want any fish, check your local fish shops. If you're looking for high quality fish, and can spend around $100 to purchase the fish, have it exported, and pay the transhipper fees, plus shipping fees once it's in your country and past customs, it's great. I...

Buying A Betta Tank For The First Time In The Next Few Days...

That's odd. Was it new gravel? If used, I could see that happening from not being disinfected, and perhaps being contaminated by the previous fish...same goes with the actual tank. I use a bleach/vinegar/water solution to clean used aquarium equipment. Otherwise I've just rinsed with very...

Buying A Betta Tank For The First Time In The Next Few Days...

Your gravel shouldn't be making your water murky unless it wasn't properly rinsed, or allowed to settle.

Buying A Betta Tank For The First Time In The Next Few Days...

You can put a substrate (gravel, sand, whatever) in the tank...the little guy would probably prefer it. Gravel is not used in breeding tanks, but all my other tanks have it. It helps hold the good bacteria that builds up over time. Are you buying an actual tank that has some sort of...
