Will This Addition Be Too Much?

Oh! Yeah, I use a phosphate remover now. The brand I was using (Phos-X by Hagen) just got nixed from the market, so I'm not sure what brand to start using now. I really liked the way you just throw in the bag, then take it out as it becomes used up. Is there another brand similar in usage? Thanks!

    Feeding Puffer Fw Snails?

Well the pond is my own, and so far as I know there has never been anything put in it other than decholorinated water, rainwater and the occasional pecan tree leaf. Thanks!

    Black Saddled Toby

Mine took out my brittle star, my (1) cleaner shrimp and one peppermint shrimp. Has done nothing to my $1 hermits, though. She must have a high-standard of dining!

    Yellow Eggs?

I just noticed these small, very yellow things up on the side of the glass, in the corner. Some are on the glass, some are floating. The ones on the glass do not look like they were intentionally placed there, but just got there from the water flow. They have a rather squared-off shape, rather...

    Replacing A Sand Bed

I would just add regular sand - not live. That may cause a mini-cycle. I'd go with some crushed aragonite or coral. HTH!

Would you remove the lm blenny before that, or just rearrange with him in the tank? Thanks!

Will This Addition Be Too Much?

Ooohhh... that's beautiful!!! I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one, but I'll prob end up with the pearly/yellowhead. The lfs around here only carry "typical" fish mostly -- they rarely get anything too exotic. But, wow.... :hyper: When I add the jawfish (whichever one it may be) should...

    Lighting/coral Question

Is a PC unit a light strip with a single flor. bulb? The hood right now holds 2 screw-in light bulbs - like the ones you put in a lamp, just a little smaller base. I have flor. ones instead of incan. bulbs in it. The tank is an All-Glass rectangle - about 20" long x 11" deep x 12" tall.

    Lighting/coral Question

My rectangle 10g tank has a hood that holds 2 of those screw-in florescent bulbs. Without having to change this, are there any easier/less expensive corals that would work? I'm not wanting a full-blown reef, but a couple of decent looking corals would add to it, I think. Thanks for the help!

Will This Addition Be Too Much?

I think I may try a yellowheaded jawfish instead. I had one a while back but lost it. I really enjoyed watching it -- very cool fish. Thanks for the help!!

Will This Addition Be Too Much?

Right now my Coral Beaty dominates. Not in a bad way, she just makes sure the lm blenny isn't in her area of the rock work from time-to-time. I was thinking he'd be less inclined to dominate too badly since he would be put in last, much later than the others. I really love the look of the...

Will This Addition Be Too Much?

Really? I've been told that size tank is fine for a six-line. Is it bc of activity level or aggression level that you say that? Yeah, I kind of thought another clown would be pushing it... guess I'll nix that. Thanks!

    Rock From Back To Frount.....

You can do it however you want, but I find it easier to leave a little space between the glass and rock for cleaning, and for some fish that like to perch on the sand, too.

    Thinking About Doing Saltwater

First off I say read the FAQs at the top of this forum section. Then, I say get the largest tank you can afford and have room for. You'll find that the amount of fish you can have in sw is much less than freshwater. Wiht a 12-14 nanocube you'd prob get away with a pair of small clowns and MAYBE...

Will This Addition Be Too Much?

In my 29g tank I have a occ. clown, a coral beauty, a valentini puffer, and a lawnmower blenny. It's been running great for about a year now, and I'd love to add a six line wrasse (actually, I'd be replacing my royal gramma with it), but am also thinking of adding a b/w occ clown in hopes of...

    Clown Fish

Just sharing my experience, I have 29g sw tank that I've had about a year, and a 10g nano I am just getting stocked. The 10g will have a Royal Gramma, Yellow watchman goby and maybe a firefish. I myself wouldn't put a clown in there just be they seem a bit more active and need the extra room --...

    New Addition Not Doing Well

Not that it really matters probably, but I just wanted to let you all know that RG is starting to come out a little now. She was even chasing flakes this morning. Her and my goby were having some territory issues, but it seems to be settling. Thanks for the advice!

    Setting Up A Nano

I've decided on the Y Watchman Goby, a Royal Gamma and I think a firefish, unless there is some other more suitable fish? I've decided to use another old HOB filter (rated for a 10) for more water movement, plus I'll drop some rubble in the back for more bacterial surface. The 2 filters will be...

    Feeding Puffer Fw Snails?

Would regular pond snails be ok too? What about the spiral-shaped fw snails that turn the substrate (can you tell I've forgotten their name!)? Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread!!

    Black Saddled Toby

I have a val puffer - cute little guy! So far he's been very easy to care for. He eats pretty much whatever I put in there, including flake and dried baby shrimp, spirulina pellets, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis, frozen brine shrimp. He also ate a few small snails that were in there, but...

    Setting Up A Nano

I'm pretty sure the lr would be fine, but just in case I plan on using some Phos-x and keeping a close eye on the water stats (on both tanks, actually). I think I may go with the YW goby, a Royal Gramma and maybe one other small fish - one that uses the water column more-so than the other two...

    Water Change How Much

That seems a little low to me. I try to change at least 1/2-3/4 of the total water within the month, at the very least. What you're changing now is about a fifth or so. Of course, I only do water changes 1-2 x a month, but larger. The more frequent, smaller ones are probably better even if it...

    Setting Up A Nano

I have an empty 10g sitting around, and you know how that is! Can't let that happen..... So, I'm thinking of trying a small sw tank. My 29g has been running great for about a year, so I think I'm ready for it. Here's what I'm looking at stocking with: yellow watchman goby (or rainfordii if yw...

    New Addition Not Doing Well

Yeah, I had one before a while back (though I don't remember it being this way when I first got it), so I'm used to how they normally act. But she still hasn't made any appearance at all... I'm beginning to worry. I may feed the tank some bloodworms today and see if that entices her to come out...

    Snails

Honestly, I don't know. But in reality I think things would work out just fine if you leave them to find it on their own. Once an area is super clean they'll go elsewhere.

    New Addition Not Doing Well

I just got back from the lfs with a royal gramma. Beautiful little fish! However, as I was floating her bag (I think all RG's are female... they look like little princess fish to me) I noticed she was not acting right... seemed to be on her side a good bit. As I finished acclimating her and...

    Adding Light Strip

The hood I have has the little area in the back for the filter, etc to fit, then the plexiglass strip that the light sits on, then the lid door in front of that. Just a run-of-the-mill rectangular hood. Thanks! ETA: I'll post a pic of the inside if that will help. Thx!

    Adding Light Strip

Is there a way to add a light strip to a normal old tank hood? I was thinking if there was a cheap/easy way to lay another strip on top (I guess where the lid door normally is) that it'd be cool to add a little extra light to my marine tank. Any one know of a way to do this? Thanks!

    My Setup

I love tiger barbs... great fish to watch, IMO. Sounds like a nice set-up.

    Marine Tank?

I agree with all of the above. You can keep costs down a little though if you do FOWLR or fish only set up. Live rock does cost a bit, but the corals and lighting are really where the money is. I have a normal 29g tank with fish, live rock and inverts. I prob have about $300 in the substrate...

    My Setup

I say that bc more than likely it's a common plec, since he didn't specify a certain kind. Usually if someone knows exactly what it is they'll say it, but since he didn't I figure it was just a "plec" = common.
  39. F

    My Setup

Sounds good to me. The plec will certainly get too big, but enjoy him for a little while. You could even add a centerpiece fish to that setup, too. Like a pair of rams or something.
