Oh! Yeah, I use a phosphate remover now. The brand I was using (Phos-X by Hagen) just got nixed from the market, so I'm not sure what brand to start using now. I really liked the way you just throw in the bag, then take it out as it becomes used up. Is there another brand similar in usage? Thanks!

I would just add regular sand - not live. That may cause a mini-cycle. I'd go with some crushed aragonite or coral. HTH!

Is a PC unit a light strip with a single flor. bulb? The hood right now holds 2 screw-in light bulbs - like the ones you put in a lamp, just a little smaller base. I have flor. ones instead of incan. bulbs in it. The tank is an All-Glass rectangle - about 20" long x 11" deep x 12" tall.

My rectangle 10g tank has a hood that holds 2 of those screw-in florescent bulbs. Without having to change this, are there any easier/less expensive corals that would work? I'm not wanting a full-blown reef, but a couple of decent looking corals would add to it, I think. Thanks for the help!

You can do it however you want, but I find it easier to leave a little space between the glass and rock for cleaning, and for some fish that like to perch on the sand, too.

First off I say read the FAQs at the top of this forum section. Then, I say get the largest tank you can afford and have room for. You'll find that the amount of fish you can have in sw is much less than freshwater. Wiht a 12-14 nanocube you'd prob get away with a pair of small clowns and MAYBE...

Honestly, I don't know. But in reality I think things would work out just fine if you leave them to find it on their own. Once an area is super clean they'll go elsewhere.

Is there a way to add a light strip to a normal old tank hood? I was thinking if there was a cheap/easy way to lay another strip on top (I guess where the lid door normally is) that it'd be cool to add a little extra light to my marine tank. Any one know of a way to do this? Thanks!

I love tiger barbs... great fish to watch, IMO. Sounds like a nice set-up.

I agree with all of the above. You can keep costs down a little though if you do FOWLR or fish only set up. Live rock does cost a bit, but the corals and lighting are really where the money is. I have a normal 29g tank with fish, live rock and inverts. I prob have about $300 in the substrate...

I say that bc more than likely it's a common plec, since he didn't specify a certain kind. Usually if someone knows exactly what it is they'll say it, but since he didn't I figure it was just a "plec" = common.

Sounds good to me. The plec will certainly get too big, but enjoy him for a little while. You could even add a centerpiece fish to that setup, too. Like a pair of rams or something.
