Your tank wasn't cycled(see beginner resource section) and I would say you have overstocked the tank.if doing a fish in cycle you have chosen the possibly most sensitive fish. Can you post you test results and tank size.it's a shame about the lost fish but don't let that put you off keeping fish...

I don't think you can persuade her as you have to want one yourself also if you did put pressure on her and she caved in she may inadvertently neglect the fish because her heart wouldn't be in it as much as people like us.

I cleaned my sand earlier and added it to the tank but didnt put a plate down so = very cloudy water,I left it for a few hours and even rinsed out the filter but wasnt happy so did a complete water change using a plate and now the water is crystal clear...i'll post some before during and after...
