My reef books describe aiptasia as pests, and the LFS sells stuff to finish them off. But I've noticed around the forum that not everyone agrees that they're bad for your tank. Is there any consensus on this? Get rid or not?

It's planned to be a reef. Yes it's 36"x18"x18" so just over 40 (UK) gallons in the display tank plus a few in the sump. Fish stock planned includes a royal gramma and either a blenny or a goby, so it'll be whoever stakes their claim first!

If you have real problems getting the flow adjusted from that 3-way, you could always get small powerheads in the sump, one just to feed the skimmer and one to feed the UV, that's how I've got mine set up, and you can then get powerheads rated for the right amount of flow you need for each unit.

Yes I do have a skimmer, though haven't got it on yet as I haven't put the salt in yet. Thanks for the replies, will just wait and hope it clears then.

I'm having trouble getting my water to clear in a tank I'm just setting up. It's only got sand and water in at the moment, and I think some of the particulate stuff that's been kicked off from the sand is too fine to be trapped by the filter floss I've got on the overflow. Any ideas on material...

From my own experience and from what I've read about them, I would think he'll be fine. However I know others around here are far more expert than me.

Your comments surprise me. I've always understood that royal grammas are very safe reef fish, and I've never had any problems with them, they're my favourite fish. They're territorial, and will warn others away from their own little hideaway in the rockwork, but I've never known them attack...
