    thinking about a brackish tank

Did you know violet gobies grow to 20 inches? They are filter feeders so only eat small pieces of finely chopped mussel and prawn etc. Must be kept on sand and are great to watch,we have 8! Also have 2 figure 8 puffers but would never put them together considering the size the gobies mouths...

    syno angelicus

senegalus can grow upto 18 inches! They don`t mix well with smaller fish that will fit into their mouth. Don`t be fooled about predatory fish not eating plecos either. Wouldn`t advise this unless pleco is much too large for polypterus to eat. In which case it would be much too large for your...

    Mbu Puffers

We have a mbu puffer, he is 2ft at the moment and needs at least an eight foot x 3 foot x two foot tank, minimum. Ours lives in with a 24" Perruno catfish and they get on fine. I have seen Mbu`s kept in community tanks with small fish which never bother them. Then others which can`t be kept with...

    polypterus congica

If you have 4 polypterus at the moment i would like to advise you that as they grow up they will not tolerate each other, that is of course, unless your tank is very large. Bad damage is rare because of their armour but the weakest one will probably be hounded to misery.

Did you know that having lots of plants in the water is great but at night they actually take oxygen OUT of the water. Is the angel becoming solitary? It sounds like it could be an internal bacterial problem to me.Make dure the substrate is cleaned witrh a gravel cleaner regularly. Water changes...

    Possibly a fungus???

Blimey,it`s awful when fish get ill.Sounds a bit like white spot to me but the fungus would of been really hard to get rid of. Did you know that oscars grow huge and can be very aggresive.Although it is best to bring them up from young with their tank mates. Also, discus are very specialist fish...

    Thinkin of new fish

I think you need to consider if the original set up is really ideal. The senegalis can grow upto 20" and is not a brackish water fish. The figure 8`s will be prey to most things and the biggest tank you own will soon be far too small for the fish which are in it. Try looking on aquaria central...

    Columbian Catfish

These cats particualrly when young, should be kept in small shoals.5 or more, sticking together is natural for these fish. Eventually their behaviour becomes strange, that means that they are ready to turn to brackish water which would be essential for them to mate. This is a MUST as they get older.

We have 5 columbian sharks. If kept in a group of at least 4,then they feel better in themselves and swim around a lot more rather than hiding away. The scientific name is arius seemanii, commonly known as columbian sharks, white tipped sharks, or black finned sharks. They eat mainly chopped...
