I am thinking about setting up a brackish tank Because I want to keep some puffers (not decided on exact species) and also a violet Goby. Has anyone kept these two together. If so what species of puffers did you have? The tank would be about 100 us gallons, depending on what i can get a deal on. Thanks in advance

A violet gobie would be fine with puffers since the gobie will stay at the bottom for most of the time and not disturb the puffer.

if your getting a puffer that stays small, i would see no poroblem. not sure of bigger puffers, never kept them.... yet

After looking at different species i think i like the red banded puffer or Tetraodon erythrotaenia. i think they get to be about 3 to 3.5 inches. Also can i keep live food like snails and shrimp in the tank all the time to help clean up until they are eaten?

You can keep these in the tank with the puffers but whether they're around long to clean up is debatable...

i just meant if i keep them in there will the puffers eat too much at once?

kittybug, chances are your puffers would gourge themselves on all your shrimp then roll around on the bottom complaining they've eaten too much, like its your fault :D

Did you know violet gobies grow to 20 inches? They are filter feeders so only eat small pieces of finely chopped mussel and prawn etc.
Must be kept on sand and are great to watch,we have 8! Also have 2 figure 8 puffers but would never put them together considering the size the gobies mouths eventually get!!!
We bought 8 in February at 4 inches and 2 are already nearly 12 inches!! Poor eyesight, possability piffers may nip fins because of constant wriggling. Puffers do NOT stay only at the top!!!

I have had a dragon fish before. unfortunatly he escaped the tank and i didn't find him in time. i just wasnt sure about compatibility as i have never had puffers.

The goby would do fine with that puffer... However, if you're going with GSP's then you may want to reconsider, GSP's adapt to full marine as they age..
