It been 3 weeks since my baby arowana (Hercules) took ill. He is still hanging in there. From all I read it seems as if he is suffering from swim bladder disease. He cannot move from the tank bottom. He moves back and forth most times, sometimes leaning to the side. But just when I think he is a goner, I look as he appears quite strong. I don't think he can last like this indefinitely. He is in a 10 gal isolation tank that has not cycled yet I don't know why. I check the ammo & ph daily and I am regularly changing the water. I purchased some Cycle and have been adding that daily but this morning I checked the ammonia was through the roof again. I know the ammonia problem is why he's sick in the first place but this is one strong little guy. I only want to see him swim normally again. Once again the ammonia is down to 0.5 or so and the pH is about 6.4. Is there a something else I can do. Also he is not really eating again I was giving him brine shrimp.

From what I have read there is really nothing to cure swim bladder, you may also wait for a more qualified person to answer but thats what i know.

I am not too experienced with this problem although 2 of my coldwater fish do suffer problems with it.
If it has only just happened then there could be an infection in there for which interpet do a treatment.
Unfortunatly my fish have a general problem with theirs, after eating they float!
It doesn`t seem to bother them too much and i give them garden peas, just cooked in some water in the microwave for about 30 seconds. That helps them stay up right for a while.Nibody knows why peas work, they just do!
It sounds like you need the interpet medication though.Good luck.
