Breeding My Discus

Great video, I noticed she did it a couple of times at the beginning as well as at the end

Fingers crossed for some wrigglers in the next 24 hours :good:

I think he must have deserved a good old wet slap across the chops for being a such a lazy parent

I was expecting the eggs to hatch last night and they all looked good, as it only appeared that 50% were not fertile. Unfortunately yet again none were fertilized

. I have let the female clean them away, and they are already showing signs of wanting lay again. I can only let them have one more go, as I have to go to work in the USA through next month. As such my girlfriend will be fish sitting. So I can't leave here with fish in the breeding tank and will have to move the fish back to the main tank.

Not to worry though, as if that is the case I will pick this up again when I get back from work, and the extra month might just let my man build up his trouser power!

I'll give them 48 hours, and then they will have to be back with their old tank mates, and can tell stories of their honeymoon escapades. I am sure man fish will be telling his mates fishy tales of all the action, while girly fish will ensure everyone knows that his pocket pistol is loaded with blanks!!

You know, they are very young fish(but keen), and maybe just a little bit too young. Judging by their behavior right at this minute, I suspect they will lay a third batch of eggs tomorrow evening(it could be 3rd time lucky), so it seems they want it as bad as I do!

I will stick with them, and keep working on it

Trouser power? Pocket pistol? Innuendos I have never heard before

Sorry to hear about your batch. I'm sure it will happen, then you will have awesome little discus babies to show us pictures of!

Hehe me either, but I'm loving it! :hyper:

Finger crossed third time's the charm eh? But you are perhaps right, maybe they're too young... or maybe they just need a few more practice runs before getting the timing right. Whichever way, what's meant to be will be. :good:

DM, Caz et all,

I am 100% certain that I will get a big family from these two. Might not be this time around, but it will happen, and I promise to share it with you all, every step of the way. I told my girlfriend that those guys will need to go back in the main tank before I head off to work and she has told me, in no uncertain terms, that this is not going to happen.......and that she will continue to take care of the breeding tank!

She is adamant that this is going to happen, and I know better than to argue! I feel that she is getting the fish keeping addiction from me now. There was even talk of another and larger show tank, so I was out with the tape measure!(that will be a story for another time). Anyway, it looks like there might not be a break in the story after all. Only thing is, if she has success with these fish while I am away I will never live it down!

Mate, I will be doing correspondence fish breeding from the US, and I will be calling here every hour for updates! So I will keep you posted.

As we speak the fish are looking like they are getting ready to spawn again today. They are very punctual, if a little unprofessional, in their spawning escapades and have started at 7pm local each time. I "have" to go to a party tonight(it's a tough life) so I will miss it if it happens, but will catch up tomorrow.

Last night they did not end up laying any eggs, but they are doing so now. Might be that they like to play to an audience! They have been at it for the best part of 2 hours and are still going! Impressive stamina. So here's hoping that the 3rd time is lucky.

Hopefully he put some lead in the pencil

Me too. He certainly has the staying power, but I just hope his machine gun is packing a punch this time! I did dropped the temp a few degrees, as this is meant to improve fertilization. All I can do is hope!
