Breeding My Discus

Hopefully he put some lead in the pencil

Me too. He certainly has the staying power, but I just hope his machine gun is packing a punch this time! I did dropped the temp a few degrees, as this is meant to improve fertilization. All I can do is hope!
Hope so for you! When will you know?
Should have a good idea in about 24 hours. If he was shooting strong this time I should not see to many (white) infertile eggs. A handful of white eggs is expected, but if I have a high percentage tomorrow then it ain't looking good.

Tell you what though...... I have never had so much fun with my fish as this! All thanks to TFF, and being able to share it and chat with you guys. Thanks TFF

Thank you for the humorous side of breeding fish, as well as the useful information. Explaining what you are doing and why. Someone is going to look at this blog later on and not be frustrated when they are having the same fun with "fired blanks" and "un-leaded pencils."

I don't want to start counting my fry before they hatch, but it looks like they might start hatching pretty soon as I can see little fishy eyes looking through some of the eggs. My girl fish is transfixed on them. So it is all looking a little better this time

Whoo! My little guys are hatching now! I'll post some pics after they have finished. Still a large number of the eggs don't look like they are going to hatch, but right now I can count about 20 little dudes.

Awesome news mate, so chuffed for you, LP

Thanks mate, I keep going back for a quick peek, and each time I do there is another little fella a wiggling

Are you going to remove the fry or let the parents look after them ?

My plan is to leave both parents with them for about 10 days(as the fry feed off the skin mucus of the parents) and then remove the male and leave the female with them until they can happily feed on only brine shrimp. This will be around the 3 week point. All this will be the responsibility of my girlfriend, as I will fly to the US later this week for work.
