~~ Tank Diary ~~

not alot of plants river man just a few, HORNWORT thats what im going to have in there someone is sending me some off here :D
i might get some java fern aswell just 1 for the corner :)

does that micky mouse platy look pregnant to you?

The platies will do fine in there now as the assistant correctly said they are hardy fish. Just make sure you don't add anymore fish for probably at least 2 weeks and you should do fine.

Ben

thnx everyone for the comments, can you answer my question, does the mickey mouse platy look pregnant? :D

Just had a quick looky at the mickey mouse platy. she sure looks fat , so a distinct possibility she is pregers.

Hey there, the tanks looking great, the plattys look so at home, i had a bubble wall like that but I changed it for those new round circle ones they do. I will always love the bubble wall though.
In my 4ftx12x15 I have a 300W heater and all the heaters here from 25W to 300W are all the same price... stupid really.
cant wait to see the plants int here

Have enjoyed reading your diary so far. Actually read every post. Did you check ammonia, nitrite or nitrate levels before stocking? Might be worth getting water test kit. Poor water quality is the main cause of most people's problems IMO.

What sort of background are you thinking of adding?

Are you going to get some decent tall plants for the back to cover up all the tubes and pipes?

im going to get a test kit soon, and i am going to get a plain black back ground and some big hornworts, and maybe even vallis :D
ill keep you updated, thnx for looking, heres a full tank shot now, ive added a plant pot that i have split in half, the platies like them, ive just recieved some small hornwort from sam, when they start growing ill move them to the back. :)

Hi Guppy_Man,

Didn't realise you had a journal going would have add my comments sooner had I realises. Better late than never though I guess!

Just to go back to the heater comments. I think you're going to have to get another one. I have a 20G and that needs a 100w heater to keep it going. I would take the 50w back to pets-at-home and get a refund; you were quite clearly miss sold it. With the money go back to maidenhead aquatics and buy a 200 or 300watt heater these are the same price or at the most £2-3 more, then put the 100w back in your other tank, you don’t want your fish getting cold :)

The hornwort seems to be settling in ok; once it’s had a chance to grow I'm sure you'll have plenty to do what you want with. If you want a 'wall' of plants along the back of the tank you could use Cabomba, but it does need quite high light, or the suggestion of valls is a good one, just add some root taps under these as they do tend to need plenty of food. Or some swords, but again these will need root tab fertilisers and you'll need to add a liquid fertiliser like API leaf zone each week.

Other than that, I'm very jealous of the tank! Wish I could get a nice big one like that!

Will keep an eye on this journal from now on, so let us know how you get on, you'll be able to have a fair few fish in it thats for sure!

Sam

thnx THEMULEOUS will try and change the heater, if i can find the reciept

how many fish do you think i could have in there, i was thinking of a pair of kribs, some more platies around 3 of them, 6 peppered or albino corys and a pleco.
is that ok?
or could i maybe have a couple more?

comments plz, im going to add some plants in the week, lots of hornwort and maybe some java fern

yes fishkiller its house slate that was just left outside my house by the builders, i asked on here if they were ok and YES they are, even after they said its ok, i still done the vinegar test on it :p
my fish love the stuff anyway.
i had the slate in my 20gal for 4 months and nothing went wrong, so i decided that a good quantity of this slate would look good in my other tank :D

i have £25 to spend on bits and bobs, and maybe, if they have still got the pair of kribs i might buy those, or if not i will buy another 4 topfin platies for £3.
but i am deffinetly buying some plants, i dont know what type though maybe some java fern, vallis, hornwort or anubis :D and a plain black background if they have it.

thnx again for looking

do you think i should get a pair of kribs or a pair of bolivian rams?

which would you choose?
