I thought I'd have a go at breeding a couple of my Zebras so I made a floating container with a mesh bottom in a separate tank on it's own and as a result I now have around 200 eggs that are now turning in to extremely tiny fish :hyper:

Now I've been reading up before trying and now reading even more after the arrival of all these eggs - I'm now waiting for them to be freely swimming before I start to feed them.

They are in a separate tank with no other fish, no filter, lightly aired and the water and heated at 78...

A couple of questions:

What is the best thing to feed them to give them the best start?

I've read that ground flakes can be used after a few weeks, is this right?

Thanks in advance :good:

Vinegar eels ar a good first food as well as infusoria and green water. Flakes must be finely crushed, almost to the point of making them a powder.

Almost forgot, some people have luck with feeding cooked egg yolk, just squeeze it through a nylon to feed. It's kinda messy and care must be takn as it spoils really fast.

Thanks Robby..

I'll get some infusoria tomorrow :good:

I feed mine live brine shrimp and also infusoria should be in the tank even before they hatch... that I get from (Tetramin) Liquifry no 1..... When I start feeding crushed flakes, (2nd week) I do put in a couple of Apple snails.... Recommended method being to wet the tip of a toothpick.... insert into the flakes, and rinse into the water... (at least 3 x per day)..... Good luck on rearing all 200.

Thanks for the tips, it's much appreciated :good: off to lfs tomorrow

I've just been checking up on them and a few are now swimming, most are on the tank wall tho...

Also today my Gold Molly has given birth today to 58 fry so I've got my hands full at the moment :D

Oh!!... good for you... at least, they are easier to rear on Tetramin no.2 (for livebearers) as a starter... (same toothpick method)....and a very good "excuse" to get (at least) one more 3ft tank!!

BTW... 58 is a healthy brood.....
