You Know You're A Fish-Keeper When...

Updated list:

You know you're a fish-keeper when...

you have house rules that specifically apply to the fish and their homes.
anything that could damage your fish tanks are banned from the house.
anybody caught tapping on any fish tank gets the third degree.
people who visit your home know it is common practice to visit the fish tank first and find out all about your recent additions and changes.
you challenge visitors to 'name that fish'.
you give all your favourite fish nicknames.
your other half stops coming to the LFS with you for fear of days passing before you leave.

You know you're a planted tank enthusiast when...

you are standing at the salad section in your local supermarket, wondering if you could grow half of these in your tank.
you are outside gardening, matching aquatic plants to their non-aquatic look'a'likes.

Oh yes, I live in fear of something smashing into the tank.
Mrs. doodle doesn't understand not allowing people into the house if they tap on the tank.
She still scratches the betta tank with her fingernail, but that's so Fred will flare and show off for mama.

We you are redecorating your kids bedroom and convince them they need a fish tank in there...

My favourite fish are;

Common pleco - Fluffy
Pictus catfish - Daniel
Bolivian ram - Adam
Red belly piranha - Ruby and scarlet

Thats not sad is it? My 4 year old brother knows all of their names ;-)

By any chance did you intend for this to be in my "what's your favourite fish?" thread? :p

I think a tank of male guppies or some live bearers which are really colourful would go really nice. Help teach her colours and general responsibility. I guess while she's dribbling its nice for them to look at - my niece is 7 months and is fascinated by my big tanks!

My other half wants to put some form of crayfish or crustacean in there so might be a face off!

Yeah my kids adore my tanks. Its quite amusing, I have 13 black neon tetras and they have named all of them. Now for the scary part: if I ask them to point out where Youtube (yup, thats one of the names) is, they carefully look for a bit, then point him out. After a while of this, I asked how they know this is the correct one. At this point, a tiny "bump" in the colour line just behind the gills is pointed out. Yes you read correctly: they can individually identify a group of 13 black neon tetras!

Baha I've become mentally brain dead since I've been pregnant. I make mistakes everywhere. You know what I mean eh?! :p

You know you are a fish keeper when your child knows not to bug you when you are busy with the tank or they get the death stare.
Mines always wants to play hide and seek when I am upto my elbows in tank water

That's why I wait for Sundays when my son comes over and whilst he's walking or entertaining the dogs - I get cracking with the tanks (not literally - altho some would argue that I've been cracked for years! lol)

Lmao yeah me too!
I'm talking about messing about with the tank in general, like when you see something you don't like and you rearrange it (which I do quite often-no wonder I can't seem to keep plants alive these days) she always says mummy lets play hide and seek.It really bugs me probably more than it should I just say what's mummy doing? and she replies busy with the tank again so it's not like she doesn't know lol.
As for water changes I just done mine, I do them on a sunday as she's at her grans from the saturday! I do the fry tank every day and she knows-when mummy has bucket in hand-steer clear lol.
