Ok, as I posted earlier, I gave them a zucchini the other day and it was Fishy, the betta, and the 2 loaches down there eating it, I noticed Fishy kind of wrapping himself around it while the loaches were eating and they did get him a couple of times and I was wishing he'd back off because they don't pay attention and they have such strong mouths ,I can hear them attacking food from another room sometimes, but now he has an obvious ( but small) tear in his top fin  , poor little guy, I've read on here about bettamax and melafix so I'll check those out tomorrow.....BUT what do I do?? Does he have to go in a seperate tank? I loaned my 10 gallon to my sis in law and I think she sold it at a garage sale  . but I saw a little 1 gallon at Walmart today for 10 bucks, should I buy it to treat him in? Whew he'll be P.O'ed if I take him out of this tank though......what kind of treatment IS it?
Thanks for any info you can give me...... -_-

I've been using Melafix on a new platy I got. All of her fins were really torn up, and it's doing amazing things! It's a liquid made of Tea Tree Oil, and it's suppose to be safe on everything..."scaleless", babies, shrimp...etc. I have cories, ghost shrimp, and the new platy is really young and they're all doing fine.

I've only been using it for a few days and I think I've already noticed some improvements.

Hi wuv,

I'm not familiar with 'bettamax' but do rate Melafix especially for damaged fish....

A natural remedy as Dixaisy says made from tea tree oil and imo works very well... :)

:)

Thanks! So melafix it is then.....and I'm assuming I treat the whole tank. Since it's all natural it should be fine and probably fix problems going on in there that I don't even know about
Thanks again!

betta max is the best they are going for bettas my female tore mines fins up bad and i droped him in some and it did wonders for him

I hope your betta gets better. The only reason i am posting is because i wouldnt buy that 1 gallon bowl for $10 I bought one at the walmart here for $2. Where do you live at?

I'm in Texas.... but I went ahead and treated the whole tank and after only 3 days his tear is completely healed. I think it must have done most of the healing yesterday because he spent the whole day chasing his tail like a dog  , I figured it was itchy or something. The crazy thing is....the melafix is made out of melaleuca tree oil, which is the same stuff I bought last year from a health food store to put on my daughters mosquito bites and it healed them right up. Wild huh?

:D Glad to hear you betta is better :D
But for some info, my male betta tore the crap out of my female betta's fin (almost proved fatal) . But I separated them and feed more that i normally did (over fed a lil) and changed the water often, and in a matter of weeks she was looking great and swiming just as much as she was before.

Thanks! I'm glad he's better too, he does have a wee bit of a distorted top fin ,almost as if the tear healed but there's a nub where his fin begins, but he's fine.
As far as females go...I've checked them out before at my lfs and they all look mean to me  , not that my bettas nice mind you, he torments "newbies" for the 1st few days  so I can just imagine what would happen if I added a female :X ,we like all of our fish but myself and my 4 year old have a certain fondness for the betta ( my daughter calls him the "master" of the tank  )
I'm glad yours recovered so quickly too ;)
