Yf Can Taste The Salt..

I believe the nitrates need to be below 10. Dude, all of that sounds bad but its easy. Phosphates just get some chaeto and your sorted, RO water is just the water before you add Salt. You dont need a skimmer, its just good to have one. And yeah, damsels are little buggers. But they are so nicely colored. I love the Fiji Damsal.

Zoas seem to be fine placed next to each other YF.

They can sting other corals but with some like green star polyps they need holding off anyway.

I have zoas next to each other and they are fine.

Ah, ok thanks for that Tina!
Anybody feel like giving Adam a few little bits of knowledge on what hes just posted?

ok, whats chaeto? i thought you needed a skimmer?

Reet Adam, start a thread in chit chat.

Have a look at the book bit by bit, don't do it all at once it can become overwhelming.

Get your basics sorted first, don't be put off corals just because of the book.

Decide what you want to keep in there, let us know what you have already that you will be using and we can help step by step.

As you are digesting each little section, write some questions down on a pad and come back to us.

It is far easier to do this way than to scare yourself half to death by looking at an encyclopaedia and expecting to know what you are doing straight away.

You have had planted tanks, its no more complicated, just different.

Chaeto is like a plant that feeds on phosphate.
And you dont need a skimmer, its just good to have one to remove phosphates etc.

I believe phosphates can do damage, but im not to sure as im still learning.
Everytime you have a question just put it on "Marine & Reef Chit Chat" and loads of people will anwser.
Me myself, and im sure other marinest sit here refreshing the page waiting for somthing to read. So you will get plenty of replies.
Thats what I would do anyway Adam lol.

alright mate, cheers :)

also, how often and % of water changes do you have to do on a marine tank, becuase thats going to be an issue if i have to buy 15gallons of ro water every week to change the water.

Well, I do a 25ltr w/c a week and my tank is like 130ltrs.

YF

ok, the tank is 125 litres, about 33 US gallons, so after displacement, its 30, if not a little less. so you do approx 20% weekly(just less) so i need to do probably a little more thinking about it, seen as the puffer is a messy eater, i can scoop up after he feeds, that will help i spose. so if i aim for 25% weekly, which is 28l weekly, 7.5US Gallons, how much will this cost?

also am i right in thinking once you have matched the new water you are putting in with the old water, everything is fine, seen as salt doesnt evaporate?
