After almost 40 years keeping, breeding and showing tropical fish I took the plunge into setting up a small marine Nano.
It is rewarding, it is hard work keeping things on an even par, it is frustrating, it is a learning curve and it is a big money drain
but I have recently broke down that tank and looking back on my pics and videos I now realize what I once had was something special (to me anyway)

I picked up a cheap tank the otherday with liverock and stuff it needed a new powerhead but now thats sorted Im on my way, the cost to time thing kind of balances it out. I really like it sometimes but after the initial thrill of it my FW tank is back on my priority I do want to get a bigger tank in the future (for both) but thats when I graduate uni and have a job and a bigger house lol.

Dont be put off it, its not that hard really. And if you have enough money you really can buy everything you need ever from day one and then its just a matter of time.

i have always wanted to change over to marine but with the fair size tank i have then by the time i bought live rock, coral, skimmers and whatever else it would cost me a fortune and that is the only thing that is putting me off. but yes one day i will.

I gave it a whirl and to be honest, I prefer keeping freshwater species, there is so much more to fish keeping than nemo, take African cichlids for instance, some of the most colourful fish in the world come from Lakes Malawi and Tanganyika, and some of the fish from those regions are very intelligent and rewarding to keep.

That reminds me of a time I was in Petco getting some supplies, and they had some clown fish, and as every little kid in the whole wide world calls them, "nemo fish." And the little girl was SCREAMING "I WANT NEMO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Over and over again.

Never!!

Not because i'm not up for the challenge, but because i don't find marine tanks nearly as enthralling as freshwater. I'd take a nice planted tropical tank over a reef tank any day of the week!
