just want to make sure i buy the right thing that won't suck them up :)
I am going to have the eggs in a 40L with a air stone aswell as this- if alright, and if i can get my corys to actually spawn -_-

Also, how would i cycle? put in other tank for a few months or....?
thanks

honestly that won't suck anything up. i've got one and it really don't keep the tank clean at all. i tried it on a small air pump and it didn't work very well so tried it on my tetratec aps 300 and it still didn't keep my 2 foot tank clean. i was trying to be cheap lol the only thing its good for is the bin. they also do a double one but i imagine thats even worse as it still only uses one airline.

You will still need to use a sponge filter though...

Try these (there are other sizes available I just can't find any on au ebay...):

Or you can DIY one quite easily (there are plenty of tutorials on youtube, google and even on this forum).

And yes, just run the sponge filter in another tank for at least a month to cycle. But you should still do daily w/c on fry tanks to make sure everything is absolutely pristine.

I have a hydro sponge IV on my 40L/10g cory fry tank.

Good luck. :good:

Sponge filters are designed to be mainly a bio filter, not a mechanical filter. Being a fry tank you will want to do more frequent water changes, removing debris in the process. You can get reasonable mechanical filtration from a sponge filter by running it with a powerhead, or a larger linear air pump.

i have this filter at the moment-

- i know its not a good picture, but i couldn't be bothered finding my camera

Is there a way of covering the openings with something?

There is nothing wrong with the first filter you linked, its a sponge filter, it will cycle the ammonia and nitrite and a mulm will form on the outside of it which the fry wil feed on. You need to cycle it like any other filter from scratch, which im sure you are aware, can take over a month.

try making your own filter, they seem to be quite good. The simplest one is just basically air pump, sponge, control valve and scissors.

try looking it up
