Would Like To Convert To Marine

To be honest it doesn't really matter, ignore this tank as it is not nearly big enough to keep anything in except a small fish and a few corals

Agree with seffie, you aren't going to be able to keep much in this tank.

But just incase you still want one the dimensions are 403Lx484Wx460H :)

Hey guys.
can you tell me how this is different from an Orca TL550

http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/dd-24-gallon-nano-cube-p-3426.html?zenid=ed3u3ed5pvfgehvjgbf23uv092

Thank you

I'm getting confused :)

The TL550 is 130L the D&D is about 90L so about 3 fish in the D&D and 5 in the Orca

I am being such an idiot and asking dumb questions lol :( I read it was 24g but thought.. that isnt much less than 28g :p how different can it be? I forgot its about 20 litres smaller. Sorry!

Anyway I have checked the french eBay aswell and second hand tanks seem to be much more costly than here. Don't think I will get anything from there!

Cheers

Hi Folks, I've been lurking on here for a few weeks now, as well as UR and Nano-Reef.

Great forum you have here, I think I may stick around for a while if that's ok :D

I'm currently running a 200L FW set up but I'm planning on selling this to fund an SW Nano, Probably a D&D Nano Cube, Hence why I've posted.

Hawkins, If you haven't read Steelhealr's thread on his Nano 24, It's well worth a read Steelhealr's Journal HERE

I'm looking at a BioCube (if i can get one in the UK) or a D&D (or JBJ as it is known in the US) as I love the upgrade potential of these tanks, Stateside they are well supported by the likes of nanotuners.com or mediabaskets.com, those guy's are providing upgrades and improvments that should see these tanks in use for many years.

I'm not in a position to knock the TL550 as I've never used one but the only thing I disliked really when I saw one at my LFS was the cabinet, not a major flaw by any means but a simple square cabinet would have been nicer in my eyes.

Anyway, I've bored you all for long enough now :D

:hi: to TFF and the salty side :good:

How about starting a thread of your plans or even start your journel now :D I started mine before I had my tank.

Your observations on the Orca 550 are correct, the stand is awful and would urge anyone to buy something different to put their tank on. The orca has a couple of advantages over the D&D the first being size, the orca is a full two gallons larger and the second is lighting - the mh on the new D & D tanks causes over heating problems

Anyways, looking forward to following your progress

ps sorry for the thread hijack

Thanks Seffie, the first two threads I read through on here were yours and Trod's, they are both great threads and very informative :good:

You shouldn't appologise for the HiJack as we kind of kept it on topic :D

Carrying on from the discussion around the D&D Nano Cube, there are no heat issues with the 24g (which we were discussing) only the 28g HQI model as you quite rightly pointed out Seffie, That model has a 150w MH lamp fitted and generates masses of heat, It's the unit I would like to buy and add the following upgrades:
Lamp fan
Fan upgrade
Additional lights

Just for reference the 28g HQI is competitive HERE

The 24g is very competitive HERE and well worth a look IMO. Steelhealr's thread listed on my last post tells you everything about these tanks and how to adapt the filter unit into a refugium to house Cheato and hopefully see 0 Nitrate Heaven.............Possibly

I've been researching these Nano Tanks for the last couple of weeks and I hope it's of interest Hawkins :good:

It looks like a great start, Everything is there and it's ready to go, as long as the price is agreeable then it's all good.

The nice thing is that it should be ready to stock within a few days, just get some test kits to make sure it's still cycled after the move and your good to go. It's quite rare for folks that have upgraded to be supplying a tank ready to go with live rock. That Live rock would fetch £100+ if it was sold on seperately.

One question I would ask is if he had to use any treatments whilst his new fish were in quaratine in that tank and what they were if he did.

What do you think?
:/
Thanks

Couple of things to keep in mind here:

I would be very surprised if there is 20k of rock in there, ask them to weight it, if there is 20k in there then it is not a very good quality rock as it must be heavy!

You will not want to use the sand - moving sand from an old tank will cause huge spikes in phosphates etc trapped in the sand.

You will need to replace the tubes - ivestigate how much they cost, I saw some on ebay the other day but cant remember how much they were.

Get rid of that urchin, in a small tank it is hard enough when putting your hands in the tank, without one of those rock chomping urchins in there.

Ask how old the pump is
Does the skimmer work?
Is the UV still working and has the bulb been changed and when?
Are there any scratches on the glass?
Does the hood work correctly, sliding both up and backwards?
How old is the tank?
Is there a heater and how old is it?
Has there ever been medications used in the tank?

When you have these answers then we can answer

Ok seffie thanks for complicating things, seriously, atleast i'll get the right questions asked/answered :p

Well he said the tank was only used for new fish to check their health, no meds were used by him or the owner before, and no copper based meds either.

I'll start writing all of your questions. Thanks!

Ps. Going to france at 4am tomorrow morning, so i probably wont be online for a week. Although I will try to get to mcdonalds for the wifi

Thank you both :)
