I currently have a 30L tropical, but it's useless, the light has broken so I need a new one. I might aswell upgrade, and I would like to convert to marine
I have kept tropical fish for 2 and a half years now, having 4 tanks at one stage.

I do not want a tank with a sump as I dont have room for it

I would like fish with live rock and POSSILY corals if the lighting would work out (help with this please?)

My first questions are:
Would a 60L tank work?
If yes, what would the stock be like?
What equipment would i need?

If 60L will work i'll get the Hagen Elite 60 and remove the filter. I like this tank because it is silver and the hood is easily removeable.

Thanks

ideally you could do with more like double that water voulme to be a good starter tank, 60l nano is doable, but a lot less options and less water is less stable.

Hi Hawkins, i'm near the end of my third week as a reefer, read up, read up, then read some more.

These guys on here are an awesome fountain of knowledge.

It is going to hurt your wallet but three weeks in and i'm loving it, unlike tropical which is all about the fish, marine tanks are full of creatures going about there buisness. shrimps, crabs, snail and the of course fish, you'll never get bored of watching your tank.

good luck.

Thanks for your help,
would it be possible to keep corals in a 60L? and would t8 or t5 lighting be ok? i cant imagine it would be too deep so i guess they would work.
im also looking for a 60L with good enough lighting now, can you suggest any? :) thank you!

T5s would be better, not very easy to keep corals other than softies in 60l as params will swing like crazy with SPS and LPS if your not used to keeping them

Ok i'll think about them more when the tank is set up

I think as the tank would be 60L i'd just buy the RO saltwater from a shop.

Would I need a protein skimmer? I guess so.
Would one powerhead be enough? I guess not.
Not sure there are any 60L tanks with T5. but i'll do some research!

Thank you for the help -

two smaller powerheads would be better than one big one.

what about an orca tl550, 120L, T5s and everything you need

just googled it and one website claims it has "2 x 24watt PL lights" is this the same? :S im confused haha

the reason i wanted a 60L is because i have finally got my bedroom organised and i have a chest of drawers where i wanted the tank to sit. obviously this wouldnt fit, and would need to be a free standing piece

i have noticed its a popular choice. i'll check ebay

thank you Ben you really have been helpful

Not sure if you have been to Perrys aquatics near Lincoln? i've just discovered it :p

You could look at the all in one tanks like the Boyu TL450 or TL550, they come with lights, skimmer, uv ect.

Thanks Nick. I think the Orca TL450 is probably more likely. What fish would i be able to keep in there after a pair of false perculas.. it's 60L :)

ty

Your going to be limited in what fish you can keep, the tank is to small for a pair of clowns imo.

A goby and pistol shrimp pair would be good.

i'll have to get the 120L
cheers :p

possibly

2x clownfish
1x bi-colour blenny
1x cardinal
1x flame angel (but im aware it might nip corals.. looking for alternative)
