Why Would You Have This Section On A Fish Forum

Seriously it doesent make any sense. Having a page where people cant talk about random stuff. There is facebook or other places for this and not a FISH FORUM! Sorry but I think its rather wierd that the creators of this website would have something like this. If they wanted something where people could jus chat they could have created an instant messaging board where people can just chat instantaniously and not having o post their thought or whatever on a topic thread.

I don't think its bad, you can have conversations without having to randomly give out facebook or emails to everyone.

Interesting knowing peoples opinions and what not too...

Every forum has one? people are always posting things that are random and this is the forum for it.

is this necessary? why are there birthday announcements, technology sections, other pets section...

its because once the people join a forum, they become part of a mini community...
and members of a community like to learn about each others lives....
trust and relationships build and people can seek and offer advice if needed through out a variety of topics...

in a sense, this is a miniature society, we are all members of it once we join. now its up to each of us whether to contribute or harm the society....

The other thing is even on facebook or chat programs, you don't have the input of every member.

The people here share lots of things in common. The main one being an interest in fish. Also, some people don't like giving away personal info. Even thrir real names. So how would you find each other on facebook.

If people don't want to just have a chat with others on here, they don't have to use this section.

another reason it makes sense is now my tank is set up, running nicely, i'm not planning any additions, everything is healthy. so I have no reason to start any topics. When i browse through, most questions have either already been answered better than I could answer, or I don't know what the answer is, so whilst I may keep an eye to learn a bit more, I have no reason to post most of the time. going back a month, I posted a lot more. because i had lots to learn about keeping my tank healthy. if I have a problem, of course i will come on here to ask advice, and if i see someone else has a problem which hasn't been answered, then i will do my best to help.

that limits the amount of conversation i'm going to have with members here.

not being funny but a lot of the members here are very friendly, funny, genuine, and would make good friends. do i want to get to know them?

aggree but i personally seem to be getting ignored in the marine and planted forums (where i just so happen need help) lol

but other than that its sort of a community i guess and imo looks alot less seizure inducing than other forums i have tried (though due to be the ignored thing i have had to brancha bit)lol

Ok, Ok I was mistaken...SORRY GUYS!!! I just found it odd that there would be this section but all of you have made your points very clear I personally just use this forum to ask questions about my fish tank, but hey, im using this 'general chat' forum right now so basically i was contradicting myself

I think it's a good way to meet and greet the people on the forum as opposed to a general "hello" thread
