Does anyone have a rought idea of the value of my apistogramma cacatuoides? i have about 25 which are just over an inch long and some of which are colouring up as males/females. I shop has said they will take them off me in a few weeks time but how much should i be looking at getting? any ideas? im swapping them for store credit to buy food for my other fish. They are good specimens, well feed on brineshrimp and bloodworms, they are so tame i can put my hands in the tank and they just swim thru it and around it.

Cheap as chips unfortunately mate, they're probably the most common Apistogramma.. and one of the easiest to breed, which further reduces their price.

For 25 at 1.5" TL I'd be asking about £4 per pair.

See what local shops are asking for them, being a more common apisto 1/3 the sale price is the usual.

well that sounds fine to me tbh, i wasnt breeding them for profit, i just bred them by accident, i sold the parents to a breeder and just kept the fry. I wasnt even thinking i would get £4 a pair but then again i did buy the original pair for like £15, but they were very nice. I will see how much they are selling for in the shop and then ask for less than half the value as i know retail works on about 100% profit usually and then see where it goes, thanks for the input guys.

TBH on second thoughts £4 might be a bit too expensive. I'd probably just count the number of possible pairs you can have (i.e. you have 25 fish but maybe 5 more females than males), then offer them for £3 per pair and remind him that he can flog them for £8 to £10 per pair when they're a little bigger, more when they're fully grown. Realistically though if he offers you £30, I'd be tempted to take it :)

Well im not selling them until they are a bit bigger and coloured up and they are excellent quality and completely tame unlike my original fish who are more scared of people but saying that £30 would still get be alot of fish food tbh so i wouldnt complain, im not in it for the money anyways, also they are giving me credit for stuff in there shop which im buying at retail price so realistically the cost to them to replenish the stuff is about half that again. So i guess i can expect around £30 - £50 depending on size, quality and actual number of pairs. Thanks for the input.

My Local and Fave LFs sells 2Inch Pairs for 3Quid,
last time someone came in and excahnged a load of fish h jus does the trade price. so i ould expect a quid each for them.

My LFS sell them for £5.50

At 1.5 inches total length, I'd have issues justifying more than 20p a fish to my bosses at work, so for 25 you would be talking about £5 for them :/ At 2 inches I could possibly push to 25p a fish, but after that I would have trouble justifying the cost to my boss, we can import them for less than half of that -_-

at work they are on the system for £7.50 per fish so you may have a chance of getting a decent sum depending on your LFS and how easily their suppliers can source them.
