So 3 of my neon tetras have white spots on them :(

I have no idea what white spot actually is. Can someone explain what it is how to prevent it and what the best cure is. I was planning to order this:

Aquatics WareHouse

Is this the best stuff?

None of my other fish have it and I haven't put any new fish in the tank for a good few months, the only new items are a much bigger external filter in prep for when I upgrade and also a new plant and CO2 thing. I try and not over feed, normaly a small amount once a day but started doing once every other day now, it's always gone in under 2 minutes. The water condition was good at last test.

What have I done wrong?

It's probably ich. Neons have weak immune systems so were attacked first. The only way to prevent ich is to maintain good water conditions. Ich is caused by parasites, and they're always in your tank. Keep the water in good condition to lower stress and help the immune systems of your fish.

I'm not sure about that medication... All you have to do is raise the temperature to over 80 degrees F and add salt if you don't have catfish that'll be irritated by the salt. Meds would also help, but I'm not sure what you guys use to treat ich in that part of the world. :dunno:

HTH :D

I'm not sure my pleco will like the salt

I'll try ordering that stuff and see whats happens, do you think uping to 80F on it's own will have much effect? I'm, currently running at around 78F.

Going to do some water testing tomorrow but I'm sure my levels are good as I have been keeping a close eye due to new filter. (Used all my old media in the new setup and the ammonia is best it's ever been).

i wouldn't get that id get metaflex its a natural remidy and raise the temperature like tempestuousfury said but no salt and if u want to use a med use protozine by nutrafin it worked on my tank and keep the lighting to a minimum to reduce their stress.

Increasing the temp makes the parasites free swimming and helps the meds work better. I doubt that it'd kill the parasites on its own though. Treating for ich is always a good thing to do if you're afraid it'll come back. Just keep the water changes up.

Thanks for all the advice.

My spot def seems to be on the way out now. I treated it with a mild dose of spot killer and everyone seems to be doing well
