White Spot And Clowns

Is this the medication you are using (Link Below). As I would only dose on the days it tells you too.

she's fine to follow the course I said, don't throw a spanner in the works now, after a week of no medication and daily water changes THEN is a good time to try a different one.

yes wilder it is :) and tizer thanx followed what ya have suggested , but as u see ones covered in spots still :S altho he really trys hard to swim about i think hes also trying hard to survive , fingers crossed.

i think im going to have to remove poorly clown outta the main tank , the other clown has taken to keep bothering him and hes far too week for that ;s i know the stress might kill him but i think if hes to stand any chance of getting better then maybe i need to put him in a tank by him self , hes hanging on ,but i just dont know how long for :S

hes currently in the spawning shell at the mo , terrified ;S when hubby comes home im gonna chance moving the others back to main tank and moving him too hospital tank :S

poorly clown seams too like it in little tank , resting and even coming out knowing hes not being bothered .. not sure he will make it but im hoping :)

main tank ,, has restarted cycling ???? :S when i checked water stats ammo has usually been 0.25 .. nitrites 0 ....nitrates 5-10 ..ph 7.6

sp today they were

ammo was 2.0
nitrites 5.0
nitrates between 5-10
ph 7.6

After 50% water change
ammo 1.0
nitrites 2.0
nitrates between 5-10
ph 7.6

so im glad i took clowny out as i dont think he would have coped in main

the tank hes in is
ammo was .25
nitrites 0
nitrates between 5-10
ph.7.6

will continue with daily water changes

The nitrItes at 2ppm in the main tank are still too high. NitrItes are more deadly to fish than ammonia. You need to do another big water change in the tank and get them as close to 0 as you can.

Good luck and hope the clown pulls through - they're lovely fish.

Cheers

wouldnt doing another big water change be too much today ? specially if tank has started to recycle ??

thanx i hope the clowns pull thru too ,, i think one in main tank is missing him already :(

You need to get nitrites to 0 ASAP, even if it means a 90% water change. Nitrites are very harmful for fish, especially if they already are in a weakened state.

Bless Him.
I agree with other members, you need to keep doing water changes. The stress will just weaken his immune system even more.
Soak his food in garlic juice to boost his immune system.

I do hope he pulls throw this, but it not sounding to hopeful.
You done your best.

Good Luck.

hi wilder :)

i think we have messed the tank up :S ughh

yesterday hubby added bacteria because lfs said it will help with the ammo , prior to that ..nitrite levels was always 0 never seen them at anything else in main tank . but the ammo no matter how many 50% water changes we have done this week ..they wont go down

so after adding this bacteria , obviously today its gone crazy with reads which u have read

we did another water change prioe to the one i did this morning

now readings are

Ammo .25
nitrate 20-40
Nitrites its now reading at 1
ph 7.6

hubby said will adding more bacteria into tank (pure aquarium balls ) help with getting the rest of the levels down

or did the lfs tell us wrong to add these to tank in first place :S ?

i think he told hubby to add these as ammo wouldnt get lower than .25 , its been this level since ich was about :S

im so lost with this now ;S i not sure what is the best way forward , i will do another big water change tomorrow morning! 50%
then continue till i get a zero reading on nitrites ..

but i think that lfs has given hubby not sure if good or bad advise by adding the aquarium balls , but he told hubby the ammo wont go down cos there wasnt ,isnt enough bacteria in tank to break down the ammo

none of the bacteria is in your "tank" nor is it in your water. Bacteria form in the filter, on the media inside it, be it sponge or ceramics. The pure bio balls the shop gave you are fine to use, they are supposed to (i believe) release beneficial bacteria into the water column, which, when it passes through the filter, cling onto the media inside it. So, no harm in trying them, however, very few people on here will give them a positive review, but thats another story.

The white spot can stay hanging onto the fish for many days, turning up the heat in the tank speeds up the life cycle of the white spot, where, in phase 2, it drops off the fish and into the substrate, its at this time when the medication can kill it. It cant kill it/remove it from the fish.

Straying from the plan and moving fish around between tanks will stress them out loads, however, it sounds like your water is pretty nasty so don't be afraid of larger water changes this week.

Next time you visit the shop, get a foot or two of pond filter tubing, cut it in half and drop it into the tank, the loaches can hide inside them where its nice and dark, far less stress and they wont care what you are doing, just don't disturb them.

Does this sound like aquarium balls the LFS suggested you to buy.

Tizer sounds like a plan i will get some of that tomorrow :) thanx for that advice , as for moving the one clown he as been in and out swimming mooching about so i think maybe hes liking the time to him self with a cpl neons in tank they are not chasing him about like the other clown was

I can't really comment as I never used the product when I used to keep fish.

Glad to hear the clown loach seems a lot happier since being moved.

Thank you for keeping your thread updated.
