Presently, I have these fish:
One common pleco
One marble molly
One silver molly
3 Buenos Aires tetras
2 Pristella tetras
One male betta

Here's how I'd like to break it down (with the addition of new fish also)

75 gallon:
Pleco
15 mollys (3 male, the rest female)
5 Buenos Aires tetras
7 Pristella tetras
8 sword tails (2 male, the rest female)

10 gallon:
The marble molly (she's healing and doesn't need to be around the other fish... they eat her fins)
6 zebra danios
6 neon tetras
the betta

Can I do that? Once the marble molly is completly healed, I would move her into the 75 gallon. Will the betta be ok though w/ the danios and tetras? Will the molly be ok in there too? The betta won't hurt anyone, or vice versa, will they? I'd love the betta to be in a larger tank, and thought he might like company as well. I'm a month or more away from actually buying fish.... but thought I'd begin seeing what will work where now.

I would put the danios in the 75g because they are to active for a 10g also both the danios and the tetras are nippy and will nip the bettas fins, or vice versa. I'd get 4 male mollys and the rest females. The betta won't really like the 75g because it would have a strong current in the tank and bettas like little to no current in a tank due to their long fins also it isn't compatible with the other fish in the 75g. Also the molly isn't compatible with each other because they would nip each others fins.

Ok, first, the danios would be fine in a 10 gal, not ideal but fine. The tetras will likely ignore the betta so that's not a problem. The problem in the 10 does actually come with the Danios though. The danios are likely a little to active for the Betta, they could stress it. They also have been know to enjoy "playing" with the fins of Bettas as well.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Swordtails. They can be tempermental sometimes. Simetimes they can be fine, other times they can be a real pain in the neck in your tank.

so neon tetras and the betta will be ok in the 10 gallon? the only water disturance the 10 has is the bubble curtain on the side of the tank, but he likes bubbles. he plays in the filter bubbles of his tank. the only fish that i'm certain about are the ones i listed already having- the rest i'm going to add.

Be forewarned, that Buenos Aires tetras have been known to get violent when they get full gorwn. I know of a lady who lost a tiger barb to a full grown BA tetra.

Yes, the neons will be fine with the betta in the 10.

the BA tetras are already a pain in my butt. i'm wondering if the fish store will just take them from me. i'm no longer a customer of where i bought them, but they are annoying as heck. how large do they get?

No the neon tetras and the betta won't be ok in the 10g because both fish will nip each other. There has been more cases where the bettas attacked/killed the neon tetras or the neon tetras nipped the fins of the betta than cases where they got along.

Corys and ADF's but you have to watch for aggression with the betta harassing the other fish, depends on the temperment of the betta or you could have 4-5 female bettas in the tank.

well, the betta has never been around other fish, but he doesn't seem aggressive towards me- curious, but not aggressive.

as for female bettas- i don't feel knowledgeable enough to breed them.

what are ADF's?

Oh wait Never mind I was thinking if you didn't put the male in the 10g then you could put 4-5 female bettas in the tank. :*) ADF's are african dwarf frogs, they look like this .

Hi,

ADF =african dwarf frog.

I have a single buenos aires tetra that i was given and he shoals with my black skirts, They get 3 inches long and munch plants so since he's fully grown i don't want to add more to my planted tank.

I would also add the danios and tetras to the larger tank and possibly add adfs or corys with the betta in the 10 gallon

Emma :)

I'd love3 to know where you get this stuff Durbkat. I've seen numerous bettas with neons, I've kept bettas with neons and I've never seen it or even heard of it. You're the only one I've ever heard mention it. Even the experts agree that neons and bettas are fine together. Drs Foster & Smith even recommend neons as tankmates for bettas. I think you need to do some research on neons.
