I sometimes shop at petsmart, but I like privately owned stores better.

I don't like Petsmart after they were found to be torturing animals and battering animals off of walls who would not sell. The change the PetsAtHome has done nothing to make me think better of them.

I always use my local Pets At Home store. Several reasons.

1) They look after their animals

2) My sister works there so we get 10% staff discount on everything.

3) The specialized fish store near me has shut down.

4) The next nearest fish store I know about is about 30 minutes away, and their fish live in cramped, dark conditions. I feel fairly confidant about using my local store.

first off i would never get any thing from petsmart as they r crap in every way
they know stuff all about anything interesting @ all and they make things up instead of saying look i dont no and make them selves look like bigger dics

i would Always go to PERRYS AQUATICS for any commi fish and any fish gear including food, filters etc.
wharf aquatics which is about a hour away for any oddball fish that you may want

I would just like to point out that English pet stores were in a far worse state when it was Petsmart, not Pets At Home as it now is. IMHO anyway, as most PAH stores do not mistreat their animals again imho. Please don't debate with me, I'm too tired!

i use petsmart more because it is close but also i use aquabotanicle and aqua teck (aqua teck has some good deals )

not ALL petsmarts/petco's do that, some could be franchises... so i dont mind shopping there... i would NEVER shop there is i knew they did that at THAT store...

Two local shops near me, one of them doesn't have much freshwater variety, mostly saltwater. The other one is ridiculously overpriced (nearly TWICE as much as petsmart charges in some cases) and it reeks of urine. I refuse to shop at petco as the tanks there are usually neglected and the staff seems clueless, ditto about wal-mart. So I shop at Petsmart, the tanks are clean and most of the staff seems so to know what they are doing.

I prefer private owned businesses, that way you get to talk to the ACTUAL owner of the place. I buy most of my fish at a place called Aquarius. They take great care of their fish, quaranteen before selling them, test their water and tell you the REAL size of the fish your buying will grow too. They also specilize in tons of live plants and live foods so it's a all-in-one stop. Then when you go onto the second floor they have the tank room with different setups and various tanks sizes. The other store i go to is just to get some supplies, but mostly I go to see the guppies I sell to them and want to checkup on them and that's Animalerie(I live in quebec).
