LOL, so all them others are wrong aswell?, windy, strap and the g man are all wrong lol, very very very experience plec breeders im afraid and know hundred times more than i do lol and your still claiming im wrong.... now im afraid it seems you are getting all defensive my friend, i merely stated you were wrong and backed up the claim i made. You were the one that got a little defensive and even more so now you've been proved wrong. You even edited one of the posts you made to try and save face jusy before you made your last post lol.

Let's keep it there.

Apologies to curiosity and tolak :), just didn't want the OP to be misinformed on a fish that could potentially outgrow or over stock her tank without her knowing and causing her grief :good:

I prefer the Zebra, just googled them. Cripes (how much). Have they always been this expensive? I wouldn't be looking at getting any now, maybe in the future perhaps.

Yep unfortunately the going rate is still £70-£100 for 1-1.5 inch juvi's adults upward of upto £300 + for breeder females.

Definitely agree with you, hell of alot of money to get a nice group lol.

When I googled them, there was a guy from Walsall selling them for £200. Is it a rarity factor that makes them pricey, or something else? People seem to breed them OK.

More the fact of supply and demand, people are willing to pay that price hence why they are still that price. The breeding isn't so much hard more the fact they take 3-4 years to mature to be able to breed. Yes there are plenty of breeders and yes in time the price will continue to come down, there have been people selling them as low as £40, average been about £70.

The rarity factor is more they have been banned from import for a while rather than actually rare to obtain they also produce reletivley small batches of eggs (10-25 ish compared to sum other species). I sold an adult male for £250 about 6 months back, people are willing to pay alot of money to obtain such a beautiful plec.

Based purely on how it looks, I like No.2.

Couldn't tell you if it is the best for your current tank and population tho!

Little Monkey - None of the plecs I posted are Zebra plecs...the top one is a Chocolate Zebra, much more reasonably price, but still very pretty.

To Dave and Jake - I really don't mind two completely differing opinions...cause I'm never going to base my decision on only one persons experience anyways. And I'm glad the black water extract was brought up as no one I had spoken to previously had mentioned this. In my opinion I don't see how I have the right to put a fish that naturally comes from blackwater conditions into a tank which is both crystal clear and pretty bright. Especially as it's relatively shy anyways.

I've also doubled checked on all of the other suggestions, and re-checked my original list. And it is staying how it is, oh and I'm starting to see the the 'majority' are as indecisive as I am!

Sorry Curiosity, I know it was a Chocolate, couldn't help myself  Have you made your mind up yet?

Fair enough, and you are right. Normal zebs are gorgeous...but expensive. And in my opinion no plec is worth what used to be my weekly pay from work!

And now I'm a student....well...you get the drift.

And no I haven't made my mind up. It's wavering between mega clown and tiger peckoltia I think. And both of those rely on me finding nicely marked specimens (as in the photos).
