L31 pepermint has a similar spot type just has more a blue hue to it rather than black, would roughly get to a similar size to a 183 aswell so no difference there.

Aww why take it out hun? Unless it's not what you want, of course.

My other choices (again knowing nothing about them) would be 1 or 4.

I dunno, I'd feel a bit bad knowing they 'should' live in black water...plus I wouldn't want to take a 'relatively' hard to breed bristlenose and not put it in a breeding situation.
Maybe I'd think twice if I didn't have so many others to choose from...but I do! So nevermind.

none of them to beh onest. I love plecs but not that kind, I love pseudas, big panaques and hypoancistrus.... just don;t get it with those types

Have you thought about 260's?, one of the most stunning plecs about imo :)

the L031 gets almost double the size of L183 so saying hey get similar size is a load of rubbish, and me giving facts about the L183 (yes, facts) is to help those who was interested in the fish, don't try and correct facts, it doesn't work out too well mate.
and curiosity101; yes they would probably do fine in your water, the black in blackwater is caused by tannins and soil washed into the river, as long as you imitate the conditions (minus the 'blackness') it should work i would of thought, and although indian almond leaves wouldn't be found anywhere near where the L183 are naturally found they would definitely aid in their health and breeding.
sorry to hijack, but i think if someone asks for a bit of information they should get it correctly!

at least my favourite out of the lot is still there, the beautiful L002!

Dave

Well sorry to say M8, your FACTS are wrong, if you think a 183 stays at 4 inch your very much mistaken lol, ask anybody that keeps and breeds these fish and they will tell you different to what your claiming lol, infact the 31 will probably get slightly smaller or around the same sort of size as 183 been at around the 6 inch mark on average. Another thing i never claimed they didn't need blackwater,if you actually read what i put i stated it would probably be better for wild caught and yes it would always benefit a fish that is used to them conditions, however the fish would probably NOT be wild caught and probably never have had any blackwater extract in the water. I will also add that these are one of the most aggressive fish ive kept, many have had probalem with males not only killing other males within the tank but also killing the females, not only just at breeding time but just becasue they have been in the same tank.

Basically my friend dont have a go when you clearly dont know what your going on about i would stick to what you know best ...oddballs and leave me to give info on fish i have been keeping for the last 15 years. ;)

Sorry curiosity but i wasn't gonna just ignore that unfounded comment, the info i gave you is from personal experience from keeping them for many many years and infact actually breeding then (without blackwater extracts lol) and none of mine have ever stayed below 5 inches infact everyone ive known who has ever kept these has never been below 5 inches ;)

oh, are you actually looking for a plec to buy?
if so then the zebra is the nicest, as most know!
they tend to be expensive but ask the right people and be willing to travel and they could be yours for as little as £50 each.

Your advising zebra's without even finding out the what tank mates there is and most 'experienced' plec keepers will advise you to keep these in a species own tank, or with fish that arnt very aggressive feeders.

zebs do not need to be kept in a species only tank, the only reason people do this is to ensure the breeding and survival of their young, and considering they live in the same conditions as curiosity mentioned, i.e. soft, slightly acidic water, i did know what i was advising, and as the L183 DOES max at around 4" a tank suitable to house them would almost certainly be suitable to house L046, only someone as simple minded as you obviously are would make a comment such as that, mate.
so in 15 years you havent noticed the difference between the fish you supposedly keep being only 4" as opposed to the 6" rubbish your trying to feed everyone? deary me, 15 years indeed, dealing in oddballs definitely qualifies me to deal with you lol, and the L031 maxing at around 7" is, to me, not slightly smaller than the 4" the L183 max's at. sometimes, i just don't understand what the heck im dealing with on here.
oh and 1 more think numb nuts, asking me about L183 would be asking someone who has had experience with them, i kept them for a good 3-4 years, long enough for them to reach their max size of roughly 4" lol

anyway this isn't what this thread was opened for, so i will apologize for my part in this pathetic argument and hope the voting continues on the best looking plec!

I thought i would just backup my claim on size, coulndt be bothered to have an indepth look to prove it so i got this off PF just to show you that i wasnt giving NONE FACT INFO lol

LINK!!!!

Some very well known plec keepers have commented :)

Oh and LOL to the message above, im afraid you clearly do need to re-read your claims lol.

No people keep certain hypans within there own tank not only for breeding and to ensure fry survive but because they have a tendency to be very timid while feeding and any aggressive feeding natured fish will out compete it/them lol.

So instead of calling names to something you really DO NOT have a clue on, refrain and do a little more research ;)
