Which De-Chlorinator Is Best

Ive ran out of my AquaSafe - Tetra 250ml.
Im just wondering what everybody else uses, as this stuff is 9 pounds a bottle!
Any good value alternatives for freshwater aquariums?

Any replies appreciated

It says Seachem prime detoxifies ammonia and can be used during cycling, whats the point of this if my tank is mature (full cycled) wont this disrupt the balance of my tank? Also seachem is more costly than the tetra aquasafe!

Hi Emily,

Not sure on the dosing of Aquasafe but I was advised to use Prime by seachem as it works out by far the cheapest in the long run using only 1ml per 40L...

Comes in various sized bottles aswell but as you hardly used any on water changes it last ages!

Have a look, can pick it up in most LFS' and could probably find it even cheaper on-line or on eBay..

Does prime work for chloramines? I too have been using the Aquasafe.

Yes, Prime works for chloramines, most any dechlor will. The problem with chloramine is that after you split the chlorine/ammonia bond with chlorine you are left with ammonia. Your cheaper dechlorinators do nothing for this, and this is the main reason the component that neutralizes ammonia is included in Prime.

yes it does creeker, just worried about the detoxification of ammonia, nitrites. wont this ruin the mature media? also it seems more targeted towards marine environments

What it does with ammonia is convert it to ammonium, which is harmless to fish at levels found in an aquarium but used the same as ammonia by your nitrifying bacteria.

I use Interpet Bioactive tap safe. Does what it says on the bottle as far as I'm aware and it's fairly cheap in comparison to others. I add about 1 mil to each fresh bucket (they hold about 6-7 litres of water)

Prime is ultra concentrated too, so that why it appears to cost more on the surface. It is actually a good deal in the end.

this site got me onto seachem prime....and im not going to use anything else now.

i make my water couple of days before i want it and leave top off to gas off.

highly recommend it.
