I haven't been in here on a regular basis for sometime and have only just realised that things aren't what they use to be. Where has everyone gone? Steel, Ski, Barney, Colin? Big C seems to pop in occasionally as does Ben. It seems this forum is 'the domain of the women' Tiger, Trod and Seffie now...... Does anyone know what happened to them :look: ??

Regards

Is there owt wrong with us women then??

I suppose people do have stuff going on in their lives and sometimes it is a little difficult for people to be on here for a long amount of time and cope with tanks and whatever happens with jobs, homes and family etc.

As long as people get the information they need, I don't see a problem with a woman giving it, although some techie stuff does pass us by (such as computer controlled gear and electrics, some plumbing - you see where I am going).

As far as I am concerned, we are women in a mens world, traditionally marine and reef keepers have been men, not any more.

Vote for Women !!

ive been on a lot less because i have no fish! kind of lost interest as 8 weeks fallow is a long wait. But ive only a week to go. Then il be back in tank mode i think. I bet my LFS think ive got lost. Probably 3 weeks since i last went. Seffie and trod have been around on here as long as i have!

Im always on hear! probs everyday, just learning stuff tho! i tend not to post much as i dont want to give the roung anser , if im sure about the asner 100% then i tend to post about it :)

Tiger, it was merely an observation, not a criticism. I really quite like women but the reasons behind that would be digressing . My past experience is that a lot of the time Seffie, myself and Trod agree on the debated issues and have very similiar practices when it comes to water keeping. It is just that I realised 'change' had happened and how dare they have lives outside of tank maintenance .

Ben what happened to all your fish??

Gary, I know you are always around and we love having you in here. You are like a piece of the furniture!!

Anyway regards

I've no bra to burn
Although I probably could do with one these days

MARRIAGE AND THE AQUARIST

By a Long Suffering Wife
From the newsletter of The Ilford and District Aquarists Society, England
Aquarticles

Aquarists should come with the warning, "marriage to me can damage your sanity". Unfortunately they don't. And anyway who reads the small print? To start with love is blind but when the glitter starts to tarnish and you are heading for your first nervous breakdown it's time to look realistically at life and come to grips with a few basic facts.

1. Fish come first, last and always.
It might be an occasion you have been looking forward to for weeks, spent a fortune on a new dress, suffered agonies at the hairdressers and got yourself all dolled up to the nines. Only to find sir is still unshaven and wearing dirty jeans and T-shirt and his reason for this state of unreadiness - "but they are breeding!” or "Arrgh! White Spot", or some other reason of world shattering importance. So you beg, plead, cajole, threaten and eventually he trails along grumbling every inch of the way and you arrive half an hour late. From that auspicious start to the evening things gradually get worse. He won't dance; he'll ignore all others at the table and answers all questions in monosyllabic grunts. He will then proceed to get drunk and he will tell one of two people "his wife doesn't understand him", either the barman or the stunning red-head who is wearing (or nearly wearing) a dress that she deserves to catch her death of cold in. It is pointless to sulk or start an argument. He just will not understand why you are upset, (his father has told him all about women and their funny moods).

2. Do not speak disparagingly of any item in the house.
If you should make this mistake, resign yourself to the fact that you have lost the item for good. It'll vanish into the fish room never again to see the light of day. No matter what it is a use will he found! Bread bins are perfect for storing all those fiddly little jars and tins. Tupperware containers - perfection itself for carrying fish, they're watertight. Saucers can be used for a variety of things except for use with cups. Cheese grater, if it's only been used for frozen beef heart you've a chance of re-claiming it, but once it's been used for earthworms you need a new one. In the modern kitchen with all its gadgets, it's advisable to keep your liquidiser under lock and key.

3. Develop a thick skin, a sense of humour, and the ability to cope when one of your guests has a fit of hysterics.
The first two seem self-explanatory but the third may heed some explaining to the uninitiated. The following are some examples that have been known to upset guests. Tubifex worms are all right in their place, the fish room. Buckets in the loo are just not on, regardless of how many water changes they need. Even worse are those containers that fit inside the cistern so there are always dead and dying worms in the bowl. This is particularly upsetting to maiden aunts. Sons, normally the most understanding of creatures, have been known to get upset when they've spent all evening and a week's wages chatting up a girl, managed to get her home on the sofa in the living room fully believing their luck to be in. Only to find Dad's white worms or maggots have escaped and are crawling all over the carpets or her feet. This is a known passion killer and girls never seem to accept a second invitation to come in for a "coffee". And the effect that a six foot tank has when it bursts on the vicar's wife just has to be seen to be believed.

4. Never accept anything he says at face value.
"You're looking a bit peaky. A day out is what you need" - funny there isn't a lot of daylight or sunshine in an Aquarium. "Learn to drive, just think of the advantages" - you can take a pair of fish to so and so or deliver a tank etc. My favourite, romantic that I am: "I'm taking you to France for a few days" - he's seen all the local fish shops.

5. Have someone whose shoulder you can cry on.
You've slogged your guts out doing the housework until the place gleams, but he decides the tank in the living room needs to be stripped down. Buckets of dirty water fascinate small kittens, and ruin carpets. He tries to be helpful, mindful of last time you screamed at him about the mess, and decides to Hoover up the wet gravel causing the Hoover to blow a fuse.

Why do we stay? How do we put up with all this aggravation? We could say, "They are our husbands and we love them" - or we could tell the truth …Valium.

I quite like that, especially when you start to think of it the other way round.

"Not tonight darling I have a headache", becomes "not tonight darling the phosphate level is high, I need to do a large water change, and by the way, can you carry my buckets for me."

 My hubby doesn't understand my worrying and thinking, planning, continously reading, etc.

Power to the women aquarist.

Oh Colin that is

and CF, yes we do seem to agree on a lot, great minds think alike what ever the sex of them - mind you isn't there that theory that suggest some men have the brain characteristics of a woman and vice versa maybe we all just have the brain of an old salty

But again have to agree with you, would be nice to see Ski more often :good: As for the other 'men', Colin, Barney, Ben - they are still here and still taking the p*ss out of me and others when they think they can get away with it  but now we have more men as well, Rabutt, Victor, Rob, Scott, Gary to name just a few...........then we have our new boys (and girls) just starting their tanks, exciting :good: and mustn't forget our good old friendly bear Bagu

Seffie x

:fish:

ps and of course there is always that CF
pps I just know I have missed some of our men folk off the list .................. :look: eeekkkkk

yeah, i posed this question in a thread a few months ago, but not just one the marine side. It seems that alot of the older members have moved to pastures new. I think its a shame becuase me being 16 (hope im not too immature, correct me if im wrong) still have a lot to learn from the old guys, even if they need bras :)

Here is the link to the thread im talking about. ----> LINK IS HERE <----

i quite like having a lot of new members around, loads of new journals. I also like all the old members coming on a lot too. More the merrier.

Oh and CF my fish all got white spot. i lost all eight of them. So i had to leave the tank fallow for 8 weeks.

So sorry to hear that, grrrr bloody white spot!! It is a real pain when something like that hits you, what are you going to do now with regards a setup? And you corals are they still going or have they died off too? I am really wanting to separate my Euphyllia from the clams; halides are really too much for them.

Hey Big C what is the lenght of 55 watt PC tubes? What are the dimensions of your reef, particularly depth? I was thinking two 55 watt 50:50 PC tubes but not sure if it would be enough? The tank is almost 24 inches deep (top to bottom, just in case Ski is lurking ).

KJ, were you not happy with your new hair or was it something else?? You look very serious.......

Regards

I think its a natural progression of all forums, people will come and go, new blood is always a good thing, it brings in fresh ideas, its exciting to hear of new tanks starting, then the newbies become the oldies and the oldies sit back and watch their prodigies bloom :good: I like to help where I can, if my advice isn't spot on then there is always someone to put things right, no harm done. Debate is healthy. Each person brings something individual to a forum, What has to be avoided, is a clique forming so others feel they can't post. I think TFF has a great friendly and balanced feel, but just like siblings the odd voice is raised.
Without this forum I would still be 'thinking' about marines :good:
