where do you get your fish?

Support your LFS! Chain store blow!

Joefish, I've been saying that for so long, about more then just fish stores, but I've learnt that nobody cares. As long as the store 'appears' to carry more stock, and charges 3¢ less, nobody is going to support the little guys. I tried, but they all went out of business, now there is nothing but Big Als and their fat, ugly pond bred fish and inept employees telling people that two Oscars are just fine in a 30 gallon tank

Park Pets, a family owned pet store that specializes in aquatics. They will not sell you a fish unless you bring in a water sample and all tests come out o.k. When I bought 2 bristle nose plecs a while back they wanted a sample from my quarintine tank as well as from the tank that they would be in after quarintine. Chain stores don't come close to the quality of fish and customer support that a store like this provides.

I go to a local store called Pet Inc. here in Az. Also for some of my decorations I do go to Petsmart or Petco. I jusy did my whole tank as a Mayan Ruins with a gift certificate from Petco. The people at pets inc are fairly knowlagble and seem to take fairly good care of there fish. Plus all through December theyare having a buy one get one free sale on almost all their fish.

I have gotten them in the begining from petsmart and WalMart, Now I get them from work and my friend's lps, and a place called aquarium 33. The last one I don't get to go very often cause it is kinda far away from me, so when I do go it's a treat for me.

i used to buy my fish at petland but most of them died so i found this fish store called aquarium world, and so far it's proven to be great. those people really care about the fish

I get mine from 2 LFS here in Arkansas:

Paradise Pets
Marine World Fish (if any of you are near Hot Springs, Arkansas, this place is worth a visit... one of the largest selections of fish in the entire region)

I also buy all of my supplies (expect for aquarium) from them even though they can be slightly more expensive than the chain stores. I want to support them and make sure they stay in business so I have a source of high quality and diverse fish. Petsmart/Petco/etc are ok, but they don't have nearly the selection of fish that my LFS can provide. Support your LFS!!!!

At a number of small pet shops as when ever i buy fish from large retailers they never seem to last that long
