What's Your Favourite Fish?

Apologies if this isn't the right section to ask this, but I was curious about what qualities people like in their fish - so what is your favourite (whether you have kept it or not)! And why do you like that species... is it the bright colours, the personality, it is an unusual or rare fish etc. Cast your vote!
(I'm too new to fishkeeping to have a favourite yet.)

Well, I have a story to relate.

Bought some glowlight tetras about a month ago and noticed in their tank in the shop was a pretty little fish with no species-mates, as it were.

Popped in there again yesterday and the poor little thing was still there so I decided to buy it. Didn't know what it was.

When I went back to collect it later, the lfs lady said, "Oh, I saw another one in another tank." I had also thought I'd noticed one earlier while browsing but, try as we might, we could not find the bloody thing.

Anyway, I trotted off home with the fish.

This morning, I popped into the lfs and lo and behold the other one was staring at me from a tank full of barbs.

I bought that too. I now have two of them and they are my new favourite fish. Turns out they are Blue-Eyed Rainbow fish and I'm smitten.

I've ascribed a vulnerability to them which is making me so fond of them and even more so because they're holding their own in my tank of silver-tip tetras, glowlights, cherry barbs, corys and angels.

I tend to go for small, pretty and subtle rather than garish, weird or big.

cory cats are probs my favourite fish! just chill on the bottom then dart up for air. go back to chilling looking for food!

they get on well in a community tank. i only had 4 up until today when i got 2 more to make the perfect number. since adding the new fish theyve all started to school(sp?) together and form unintentional shapes and patterns lol

Platies! They are so colourful, friendly, hardy, easy to breed and raise, and just generally gorgeous! I love them!

It has to be Ben our GBR. The colours on him are fantastic. He keeps himself to himself, unless a certain Harlequin Rasbora wants to have a go and then he will chase it, and he will take food from the end of my finger.
Great peaceful character who will interact with a human.

I bought 2 Spotted Corys some time ago, not realizing they were male & female. As they matured, and I changed water, they spawn on the glass and I just leave them there. I have Endlers in the tank and they're not bothering them. I have 'umpteen' Cory's of different sizes, swimming around the bottom. Female's eggs are quite scattered as compared the the above pictures.

Haha, you know what's freaky? I was in there yesterday (if you saw a guy accompanied by an American woman and a four year old girl, that was me!)- and thought "Oh look, there's a rainbow fish in a tank full of other fish!" He stuck out because he was the only one in the tank. Sure is a pretty fellow, glad he's gone to a good home

I'm not the biggest fan of that shop although they've always been really nice. My favourite is over in St Leonards opposite TK Makks. Really good people.
Although none of the local ones come close to the selection I saw in, for example, Maidenhead Aquatics in Fair Oak, Southampton the other day.
Mind you, the place over at the garden centre in Hailsham is good.

Well there is only one fish for me......got to be discus. Started fishkeeping when I was 12, first favorites were all manner of live bearers, love watching them birth and see the fry grow. Oscars came next, was great to tell my mates to feed them and watch them jump as their fingers got nipped. After that I moved into lake malawi chiclids, guess coz there the closest to marine in freshwater. After a short break I set up a tank for rams, saw a discus on t.v. and I was hooked. They are just so elegant and majestic and the way they care for their young is a joy to watch.

I'm quite fond of Bala Sharks. I've never kept them, but a friend of mine does. I generally like "normal" looking fish like Tetras, Danios, and catfish over stuff like angelfish and Eels.
