What's Your Favorite Tetra?

i had 5 black phanton tetras they were so cool!i like them all but i find they can be weak!

My new favorite are rummy nose. Excellent schooling behaviour, and pictures just don't seem to do justice to their beauty.

Got to be Colombians.... they are like mini Pirhanas, except without the attitude of course. I have a shoal of six, they are very active and colourful and go berserk at feeding time, often jumping right out the water.

rummynose tetra, you got to like that cute little red nose, like a clown lol.
you can tell what the water quilty is like by the colour of there nose, the brighter the red, the better the water and the happer the fish are, the duller the red, could indicate poor water. :D

I went to the lfs today. Unfortunately, both of my female cockatoos they were quarantining for me died. As you can imagine, I was a little bummed, although I didn't hold out much hope for them in the first place. To console myself I started looking at the other fish. I was looking at the black phantom, lemon, and rummy nose tetras, and I still liked the rummy nose the best. I ended up getting 6 rummy noses and 2 von rios to add to my existing school. So far, I must say I'm quite pleased with my purchase. The tank looks very much alive now. The rummy noses seem to school much more than the von rios and some of the von rios seem to be schooling with the rummy noses. It really looks great, and find the fish to be striking. They have already colored up a lot and the red is striking, as is the tail with it's black and white markings.

Incidentally, the lfs also had another pair of cockatoos in. I told them I'd like to get another female so I can have two for my male. They have one set aside for me in a quarantine tank. Hopefully, this little gal will be as healthy as the last pair they sold me.

Congrats on the rummy nose! A lot of tetras seem to school nicely when first introduced but then scatter after they get used to the tank - My rummy nose are nearly always together in a nice tight school. The red coloration should improve over the next few days, most of mine could be called "rummy headed" tetras.

Still rooting for you with the Cockatoos.

Withou thinnking about it much, I probably would have said i like diiamonds best, but I haven't gotten any yet. i've had glologhts, neos, and black neons. My black ones stick closest totether, but the glolights accepted the lone neon when the others died soon after perchase. Most ppeople comment on that bright blue neon most when they see my tank, and they are small enoughto fit a few into almost any tank. :)

I'm happy to say this pair of cockatoos is doing well. I jut picked up another female that the lfs kept in isolation for me, as they did with the last pair. Although I don't have a quarantine tank, I picked up a breeder net to isolate her. This will allow her to acclimate and not get harrassed by the other cockatoos and not have to compete for food with the tetras.

The rummy noses are a mixed bag right now. 3 of them look great, school around together and have nice red markings. The other 3 aren't swimming, don't have that deep red color and aren't eating too much. I've heard they can be hard to get acclimated to a new tank.
