There is no need to buy solvent based or specialist epoxy paints, as we are only talking of painting the rear of the tank if I understand you right.
As long as you are only painting the external side of the rear pane, standard vinyl matt emulsion would be best.
You could spend a bit more & buy acrylic eggshell, which is a whole lot tougher & harder to remove. Both are relatively cheaper than solvent paints & less toxic.
For easy removal, there is always the option of painting an old roll of wallpaper black (or using black card) & sticking it to the (outside) rear of your tank.

trust me, I've had 37 years in the decorating trade & 26 years as a keen aquarist

I followed bens and others advise and used ronseal tile paint, "Granted blue but yeah" and was really inpressed. Alot of paint will struggle to adhere and spread properly on glass.

I went down the black route for my tank, went to a local sign makers and got a sheet of vinyl cut to the perfect size for a couple of quid. That way you can take it off and change the colour at a later date if you want! Just mix a tiny tiny drop of washing up liquid in a spray bottle (garden spray thing?) the give the outside of the tank a couple of squirts before putting the vinyl on. If you use filler blades you can make sure there aren't any bubbles either.

Thats what I am doing funkoid except I am the sign maker haha! My work can get vinyl for rather cheap so I am tempted to whack a sheet of exterior vinyl on the tank! Sticks perfect to the glass! and the washing up liquid is what we tell our customers haha! :D Gives a perfect finish, my tank atm has paint from the previous owner but has scratches in it!

i used plastikote spray paint from b&q, cost £6.95 i am happy with the result although i did have a slight hiccup, thats now sorted
