What Is Your Favourite Filter And Why.

I use an Eheim 2126 with built in heater. Great bit of kit but in all honesty probably not worth the premium they charge. I changed out the green pipework too as it was too obvious in my tank, plus you have to buy separate media. If I was starting over, I would look at the Rena XP or Tetratec plus an inline Hydor heater as I haven't heard of many people having problems with them and they come with media as far as I know and don't cost the mega bucks that are charged for the Eheim.

A few people will think I'm nuts, but my favourite externals for home use are the Hydor Prime's.

I've used them since they came out and never ever had a problem on a good number of tanks. I just find them exceptionally efficient, easy to use and setup :good:

I have a reverse flow undergravel that I built with a powerhead, hoses and undergravel plates. I have it walled off in one corner of the tank with a frame covered with cut to fit mechanical filter material (Marineland Right Size). It is a piece of cake to clean, stuff doesn't get deep in the gravel and the tank is crystal clear. I use carbon in the intake, but other than that and occasional - and I mean every couple of months occasional - partial changes and replacing the filter material a couple of times a year, I do no maintenance at all and until this week, hadn't had any issues with the tank or its inhabitants at all. Water quality is Ammonia 0, Nitrates 0, Nitrites 0 and pH 7.3. . New fish don't have ich even after 8 days in quarantine, but my loaches do now :-(

Im going to have to say my Ehiem Classic 2215-love it!!
It holds a bunch of biological media, and filter pads also :good:

Eheim 2026's and 2028's have served me well thus far

Also, Fluval4+ internal, they been great to me too!!!
I too prefer the Aqua Clear. I have several and have in the past used wet/dry, cannasters, more expensive hang on the outside filters, box filters and undergravel. I think that covers what is basically out there without naming brands. I prefer the Aqua Clear because it is easy to set up, easy to start, easy to clean, has great water flow and it is I believe the cheapest out there in numerous sizes. I do not replace the sponge new when I clean the filter but instead rinse it off with my tap water (well water so no chemicals to kill the nitrifying bacteria). Great filters and after years of filters, well - I can not say enough about them. Karen Campbell

Well, even though we've only had it for a short while, have to say I'm really loving fluval fx5 canister filter. Quiet and creates such a great current in the tank.

I've gone back to using the good, old fashioned, box filters in all my tanks. This picture is one I use when I try to explain to newbies what a box filter is. :D

I'm waiting for my Ehiem classic to get here so I'm glad to see I'm pretty sure I made the right choice.

i use an eheim pro2 2028 and an eheim 2252 internal both superb wouldnt change either . super silent super reliable and easy to maintain

Filters have never bothered me that much as long as they work, In my community tanks i have the original juwel filters running which seem to do okay, and also a fluval of some kind on either side.

In the betta tanks i have afew with those elite stingray filters, although they dont allow for much media to be kept.

I like this old internal filter from an Odyssea Cube5 kit. It's basically a cylinder with a powerhead underneath, a flattened spout, and a cheapo cartridge. I don't use the cartridge but put poly-fill in it topped with a handfull or two of sintered glass biomedia.

I use it in a 9gal tank and I have a very happy little tank!

Oh, and I love aquaclear HOB filters since you can just put whatever you want in them in addition to or instead of what aquaclear offers. Except I don't like waterfalls. I like silence.
