Does anyone know the best of the best of the fish.. Fresh water if poss?? :D

Well if you have the money then IMO the best would be a merodontus tigrinus, a true siamese tiger fish (3 bar datniods microlepis) and a super red asian arowana, but your talking a couple of thousand quids worth of fish there and you would need a big tank to house them.

I'll second CFC apart from a GOLDEN asian arowana would be a better choice lol

:D :p :p ;) :D

I have no idea what CFC talks about half the time with all these fish he knows but if I were to say what is the best fish to keep in a home aquarium, with tank size not being a factor, I would have to say a Parachromis dovii.

Sorry CFC. If I knew half the fish you did I might tend to agree with you more often, mate. ;)

ste2k3 you aren't any better! :p ;)

a super red asian arowana would be a wonderful specimen. to bad they're illegal here in the US. i would love to have one.

MUHAHAHA!!!! Of course, I would have to say, PUFFERS!!! They are definately the best fish in the world, and they're not impossible to care for, but I would definately recomend against a novice fisherman/woman getting one. :( I love the way the swim, eat and inter act with you. They are the fish thats least like a fish, they're kind of like dogs, (Yes, mike, not cats :sly:) they know you and stare back at you when you look at them!! They are terrific!!!

Hmm a Red Asian Arrowna`s, sounds nice, i`ll have to see if my lfs (fish alive) will get me one... :)

You'll have trouble finding one in the UK, they are CITES registered and are very difficult to import, the ones that are imported hold prices of £1000, yes one thousand pounds or more. The same goes for the true siamese tiger fish, the only one of the 3 i mentioned that you are likely to find is the merodontus tigrinus, but these usually start at around £500 for a 6" specimin with adult fish going for thousands.

Hey those of you who though the asian arowana was the best, I highly agree. It's a really good looking fish and just recently legal in Australia (About a few weeks ago). I saw one in a store and there was only one. They are a very nice scale coloured fish too. I'd love to own one. I think it is very fair to say its the best fish. I'll let you in on the prices when I see them again.

Look at it its not really good looking its ugly!!

I'm pretty sure that they have something very similar in Maidenhead aquatics in Thacham. Its silver though!!

Probably a south american silver arowana, a much cheaper and easier to come by cousin of the asian arowana.

UGLY!!!! well they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder -_-

I'm not saying I do like it. I think thats what makes it attrative.
They have a diffent sort of beauty they are a great colour and if they move in the way the ones i have seen it is magestic. Its just that big mouth - but thats what makes it so interesting
