.............altho I am a little confused! Is it the guppy or the mickey mouse platy that's given birth?

The Mickey platy I only brought her earlier i went to Pizza Hut and thought I'd pop In she was last one so felt for her she didn't even look major pregnant, I know I still have babies in the tank I've seen them pop up an then shoot down I've caught 9 so far :-D!
The guppy isn't looking to swell she's lay in the corner at the bottom
Of the tank right in the corner, she's squared and that hole has opened up poor thing ;-(

well.... still no fry... but the oldest fry i have... i can't believe it but they are almost an inch long!!! they measure from half inch to 3/4 inches. What happened to the cute and adorable babies i had!??

They grow up and leave home and start families of their own! lol
My mama platy is HUGE at the moment and it's 4½ weeks since the last lot of fry so it could be any day now - tho if she goes to previous form it will be exactly 5 wks and sometime over Friday night!

it is 5 weeks tonight since Momma gave birth. Also i now have a one eyed bloodfin tetra in my tank with my fry and adult mollies. He Got named One-eyed Jack LOL! Spot is on the left and Momma is on the right.

Platy mama is still huge and getting huger (is that actually a word? lol) by the day! If all goes as before there should be additional tank occupants by Saturday morning!

Sorry to hear that, Gem - you aren't having much luck are you?
Hopefully your other fish are healthy and will give you some pleasure

If my Mollies get any bigger... they both will pop!!! Momma's scales are even flaring out all over!! How much longer can she possibly hold on to them... i even raised the tank temp back up!??

She might just be having a lot how longs it been since her last lot
And mama I've found one of Sunnys babies actually hidin in the crack of the tree house it came out for food, it was from the batch match 7th I'm so happy I've called it flash jr :) its in a little tank now to its self it's mad to say I found it the day after he died :-( are u good at diagnosing this was him he was like this for 2 days.

He was in there because he was getting attacked am I the only one to bond with a fish lol I think it's because he always looked after the babies an if momma tried to eat them he'd stop her

He looks like a sunset platy too. I'm not good at diagnosing to be honest tho he does look like he's upside down which could be an indication of swim-bladder problems. SB problems I believe can be caused by internal infections or something as simple as constipation. I've read that giving a cooled, cooked and deshelled pea mashed up once a week is good for constipation altho it apparantly makes the water cloudy so probably best to give it just before doing a water change.
I'm speculating that was the problem - of course I don't know as I haven't seen what he was really like  and it's not easy to tell from a still photo.

Am so pleased you found one of the fry! I hoped you would! Yay!!!! Am sure it will be alright in the main tank with your platy mama as it'll be a few weeks old now. My youngest fry were 5 wks on Friday and she hasn't even bothered chasing them for the last 2 weeks. I still can't tell the sex of my oldest fry at about 15 weeks. I thought it was a girl until a week or so ago when it started presenting to one of the other fry (bending sideways as if trying to cajole - like a fella when he's trying it on! lol)) I've never seen my female adult do this, only the male. Can never get a good sideways look to see what the fry finnage is like - too bloomin' fast and I've heard that you can't tell for sure until they are about 5 months old anyway.

My platy mama was due again on Friday if things had gone as before, tho I had lowered the temperature by a total of 1½°C in increments as someone told me it can slow down the breeding. What it seems to have done is slowed down the birth rather than breeding - she's like a house-side and fit to burst so I've put the temp back up 1° today and hope she'll give birth soon. The tank is heavily planted now so the fry will have somewhere to hide.

Get a pic of the fry for us to see when you can.

I have a male and female platy who both present to each other, he is trying to establish dominance and has all the other females under control except this one won't back down!  They dance with each other, fins displayed and arched away from each other and occasionally one or the other will nip as if to show who's boss.  She's already pregnant so he's not interested in mating with her.

I have some six-day old fry in the tank (my very first) and another batch on the way soon.

Thanks Daize! Bet that dance is interesting to watch! So is it a domination thing rather than a mating move? It is the oldest fry so maybe it was just trying to prove something with the younger one. I'll have to wait until it's a bit older then and hope I can get a good look at the fins. It does seem to have a deep chest but I guess it could just be greedy!

I'll let you know when she sproggs again, Gem, keep us informed about your fry!

Momma had her first batch on 2/13 which will be 6 weeks on wednesday and Spot had her batch on 3/3 which is 3 weeks today. I'm having trouble now telling them apart cause the spot on Spot is healing that caused a little nick in her tail fin. Plus they both look to be the same size now... every time they start look like they are squaring off... their bellies get even bigger in the front then the back half fills out and then it starts all over.. the front gets a bit bigger yet and then the back...

I turned the heater temp up to 25°C yesterday and the top temp was 25.5°. Mama's still huge this morning so she clearly wasn't tempted to give birth last night. I guess I felt guilty that I'd cooled it to slow her breeding down, but her size made me think it was just delaying the birth rather than the pregnancy! It's 5 wks and 3 days since she last sprogged so it could be any day now.
