Im taking a marine science at school next year, and we get to take care of a pond with fish in it, and also buy a fish and put it in a tank and take care of it through the whole year! Pretty cool huh! Well i was wondering what fish i should get, i dont want the fish to eat anyone elses fish and get yelled at laugh.gif , but dont want mine to get eaten either...for they will not have their own tanks. So any ideas let me know! Oh and i beleive theyl have to be freshwater fish.
Thanks in advance!

Get something interesting, strong and not to big.... A GUPPY!!!! Na, I'm joking. Get something like a bala shark or a rainbowfish?

Marine science... and u only get to look after Tropical Freshwater fish?! What a jip!!!

Its a bit tricky if you only get to choose one fish... Especially as we don't know what other ppl are going to choose... I personally like German Blue Rams.

It's going to be pretty hard for people to give good responses to be honest.

Need to know tank size...
What tank mates will be (I'm guessing you wont know this?)
Filtration...

I've gotta say, this is kinda worrying me if the school is just letting you put any fish into a tank together. It could be a total disaster!!

Get some sort of a smaller sunfish species IMO. Large attractive fish, won't be big enough to eat everyone else's fish, but will be aggressive enough to run the tank ;)

Honestly, if the tank is big enough, go for an oscar! They arent mean( in general). They are very pretty and personable, and wont get beaten up( that's for sure).

But get large and eat smaller fish =/ Thats what I was worried about or I'd tell him to go with green sunfish. ;)

Thanks everyone! Some look really good like id love to get an oscar but they just get HUGE not looking for fish that big. But with the class its marine also because im sure the teacher has his own tanks to use with his own fish and we dissect like a starfish and stuff. Oh and were not just throwing a bunch of fish in a tank toghether haha the teachers pretty eduacated and know what and what not to do.
Also there will be filters/heaters in all tanks which not too sure what sizes they all are, theres so many but.....definatly more than 15 gallons...

Bottom line: you need to coordinate w/the rest of your class. ANY of the above suggestions could be complete disaster depending on what else is in the tank, what size the tank is etc. Not to mention that many fish should be kept in schools.

Impossible to say unles we know what kind of filtration, size of tank you will be using and what fish everyone else will have.

what about a firemouth or a shelldweller if the tank is small. if you don't wanna be laughed at, shell dwellers are the ones they've got real attitude (or attitude problems depending on your view)
