What Fish Is A Good Fry Eater?

i have a single male apistogramma he isnt shy at all, i did have 3 to start with but all ended up males as they were so small wen i got them, he killed the other 2 :(. i would go for a pair tbh if u can squeeze it in. there pretty small fish.

thanks for the reply.
i read that apisto's are polygamous so will one female not get bullied and harassed due to the male having no other fish to preoccupy him?

yer thats a possibilty, id probably try get a larger female, ur tank is very well planted and you may get away with it with all the hiding spaces in there for her to rest in.

its a different tank they'l be going in, 1/3 blyxa and the rest is carpeted riccia, quite open really, oh i dont know what to do...

Definately look into the GBR.
I had a swordtail giving birth last night and before I could get to her my male GBR gobbled the first two to come out.
My male krib then gobbled the next two before I managed to get her sectioned off.
I can definately say both will eat fry without a problem
I also have a Yamato shrimp which was really small when I got her (not so small now Lol) and they never touched her or my plants. :good:

Jonny, I can't really help with your question but I just want to say that the tank in your sig is beautiful! Is it yours?

Thanks Twinklecaz, yes its mine, i find aquascaping as much fun as fishkeeping, they'r a great focul point for any room and make fantastic homes the fish. On the down side its pretty expensive and can take a lot of work, i'll try and post a pic of my newest tank if i get a chance.

I actually saw a fully grown male in one of my lfs' today, he'd been dropped of by a customer that didn't want him anymore but he's picked up a disease since arriving so i asked them to keep me updated and if it gets better he's all mine :good: he'l be a beauty once he colours up, if he gets chance that is!

I'd probably go for Bolivian rams if i went down that route and unfortunately kribs will have a go at my cherry shrimp for sure, its a shame because they are nice fish.

None of my agasizii go near my plants either, plus they're great little characters. What about panchax?

panchax or any killi would be a great addition but i use luminaires so in all likely hood they wouldn't last long, good suggestion though. I'm kinda pinning my hopes on this agasizii now - which i shouldn't because he wasn't looking too good, probably croaked by Monday :shout:

I'm just not quite sure about keeping him alone...

Hi Twinklecaz, as promised, a link to a new thread with a few pics of my most recent scape.

African Leaf Fish are great fry eaters IME, but quite reclusive in well-lit setups. Not sure if it's the best choice for you considering your swordtails, though.
