What Fish Is A Good Fry Eater?

u could try keyhole cichlids but i dont know how actively they would hunt fry. ive also never kept them with shrimp, but perhaps some other members could comment on that.

they dont touch tetras.

actually youve got me thinking, i had some apistogrammas,(dwarf cichlids) beatiful fish and quite peaceful in community tanks small but boy would they go after anything small and wiggling about, and i dont think they could manage shrimps. di

oh dilema. betta or congos were edging it but now i've been told neither of them are great fry eaters.

apisto's would be my number one pick by far, i've always wanted them and it would mean only 1 or 2 extra fish which is ideal for my stocking but they are likely to up root my plants, i have stacks of Blyxa, all new shoots with small root systems so any kind of cichlid would surely disrupt it?

Loving this conversation by the way!

nope i disagree, not apistos, or rams actually thats another choice, cant say ive seen any of mine touch plants they tend to stay about 3/4 to 1/2 way down the tank, id like some apistos too. di

ive got rams, kribs and cockatoos n none of em bother my plants, its the guaramis tat rip my plants to shredds, grr

my arm definitely doesn't need twisting for this one! I'm going to call up my lfs's now and see what they have, please have blue cheeks........... :hey:

oh kribs :S yea there another good hunter type fish, a bit territorial when breeding for my liking, i still say apistos are the one, if you get a good online supplier, or someong who posts let me know, id love a few, di

I've thought long and hard about kribs, good specimens are simply beautiful but every time i've gone out to buy some they always look so dull and un-healthy in the lfs. Did yours look dull when you bought them and did they colour up a lot after a couple of weeks?

will do di.

i had 2 kribs and they looked fantastic after about 2 weeks. i also have rams, appistogramma agazzisi and 3 keyholes, none of them bother plants at all. I would say get some appistogrammas in your tank either agazzisi or cockatoids, both come in a triple red version that looks great. My agazzisi patrols the tank looking for anything moving, hes like the terminator!!!

tri mar had some triple reds in the other day wen i phoned them, they have a very good reputation.

just phoned tri mar, they have 2 male triple red agassizi's in stock but they re-stock almost weekly so you should be ok Di.

Can apisto's be kept singularly or would that make it timid and skittish?

Kribs Apistos or Rams will most likely eat your Cherry Shrimp. Even if they can't eat it all in one go, they'll give it their best shot.

i was talking to monty at trimar only a few weeks ago and he said he would sort me out a deal when i next wanted some fish due to some fish dying last purchase i did. :good:

yeh i think i'm going to have to re-home my cherry shrimp and replace them with larger amano's.

Can apisto's be kept singularly?

EDIT: ok so my lfs' have yellow and standard borelli's and double red cacatuoides so i'l head into town tomorrow and see if they'r any good.
