Mmm... not according to everything I have ever read... my books just say H. sapiens is modern humans. No subspecies.

The-Wolf, a quick scan of a Wikipedia article reveals that you are right in that we are the subspecies H. s. sapiens. But 'Joey' is incorrect in the belief that H. sapiens went extinct, because we humans are (to the great misfortune to most other animal species) alive and well, taking the spots of most numerous, most widespread, and most dangerous of all predators.
