So how would you rate the TetraTec Ex range?

How many of you have actually used one?

'EHIEM' are prob the royals royce of canister filters, and price-wise its about the same..
however IMHO 'TETRATEC' seems to be the best value for money.

whats the point in owning a filter most shops have never hurd of it makes it very hard to get parts if you need them ot replacment sponges

you've never heard of tetra???

I have to say that although the Eheim classics are basic compared to the more advanced Pro models they are perfectly good filters that will run forever and do the job you want them to, if you want an all singing and dancing filter that self primes and tells you when it needs cleaning then the classics are not for you but if you just want a reliable filter that can be stuffed with any media you like and doesnt cost the earth then there is nothing wrong with classics.

if you dont mind the hassle of trying to close one the classic is fine but for someone new to fishkeeping trying to close a eheim classic is enought to make you give up fishkeeping before you even get started

yes i have hurd of them but they are not big on filters hear in the UK fish food yes filters no

My point exactly..

btw UK also.

Just as email from google wasnt very well known afew years back. Due to the high quality of service & well known rep of google, gmail grew to becoming one of the biggest, most used free email services online right now.

I believe the same will hold true for filters from Tetra. Tetra are a big, well funded company, that can hold there own. They are not going anywhere.

If you actually gave one of the TT EX range filters a chance, you will find what a well designed, easy to use, value for money filter it is.
It is truly nothing less then quality. If PFK didnt agree also, they wouldnt be giving such good reviews & recommendations about it.

the only people who think fluwho are any good are the people who made the mistake of buying one or some shop keeper trying to sell you one
Actually, I purposely shopped around for and bought a fluval 305 despite the horror stories I've heard here...mainly based on previous experiences of fluval equipment lasting a long time.
I never really understood how it is they have such a bad reputation on this forum in particular, but in real life I've spoken to many experienced fishkeepers who feel about ehiems the same way people feel about fluvals here, and I've never spoken to anyone who's had a problem with a fluval. I know that at my lfs pretty much the same amount of fluvals are returned as ehiems.

If it wasn't for this forum, I would have a really bad impression of ehiems  . But now obviously I know they can be very reliable filters too.

I asked about this on another forum once, and was told that fluval canister filter's bad reputation probably comes from the 04 range, which were apparently really terrible for breaking down in the beginning.

I've only had my 305 running for just over a month now, but I couldn't really ask for more. It's nearly silent in the cabinet, and it only takes 5 mins to clean out which I do once a week. So far I'm well pleased :good:.

im sorry but i watched the you tube set up and you say its a great desighn its just a eheim copy same head locking and same filter trays but ijn black

all you have proved hear is how great the eheim pro is if other companys have to copy it

ahh so if eheim is so great, and the TT EX is exactly the same as the eheim, the only difference between the 2 is price.
Therefore
TT EX being the better value for money product.

Works as good as the leading brand, but costing a lot less.

have you had your tetra for 10yrs+

i have a eheim wet/dry 2228 and a 2229 that have been running for 12yrs and not even had to change a impeller

what you have stated is the tetra is a cheap eheim copy when it has been running for 10yrs+ then you have a point but until then you have no proof

If no one gives them a try, then you'll never know.
So I could wait 10 years + and then say I was right?!! & paid 1/4 of what you paid for yours :p

BTW using the same filter for 10 years+ is just being cheap :p

the tetratec ex range is fairly new so you can not say that it will last ten years. but put it this way, it is about 1/3 of the pro 3 price. so even if it last 4 years then you're doing very well. however tetratec make quality products so i think that it will last almost the same. ehiem must surely be the best but tetra tec is definately value for money.

anyone who has been keeping fish for years KNOWS eheim are the best
I think T1KARMANN is overdoing it a little here. I flatter myself that I know a little about the hobby and have a bit of experience at it, and over the years I've almost always used Fluval filters and never once been disappointed. The one time I used an Eheim filter (for a reef tank) while it worked extremely well I found it far too noisy for my comfort. For some reason it would accumulate bubbles inside the impeller. In any event, when I've been shopping for filters, the Fluval models always seem to be well priced and as I say, I've yet to have problems with them.

At the end of the day ignoring price is silly and it just gets snobbish when people insist you buy the most expensive brand because they happen to look down on the budget models. If you have money to buy an Eheim filter, that's great. If you don't, then the lower-end brands work perfectly well and the filter bacteria sure as heck don't care! Better you have a cheap filter with adequate capacity than an expensive filter inadequate for the fish you're keeping.

Cheers, Neale

I cant work out where fluval get there reputation from
I owned my fluval for well over 2 years (ok its not 12 years) & its as silent as the day it was out of the packaging.
Ive never had to replace a thing on it & did a top job in my old aquarium. If my new tank didnt come with an inbuilt filter (or if it ever packs in) then i'd happily go and buy another fluval.

I'm very tempted to buy one of these eheim's though to see how good they are

if you buy good product in the start then their is no need to replace it the 2228 and 2229 are not running on my tank anymore buy the person i GAVE them to is still running them

when i brought my 2 x eheim pro3s THE DAY THEY WERE RELEASED IN THE UK i knew they would be the best filter on the market and didnt try to cut cost on what is the most important bit of kit you will buy for your tank the KIDNEY

when i see someone has run a tetra for 10yrs + and i need a filter upgrade then i may look at them but right now i have no reason to think of changeing from eheim as they have never let me down in my 20yrs of fishkeeping

the poll speaks in a bias way. what is better? a ferrari or a ford? the ferrari should surely be better, but then you have to argue constructively, which we are doing, and where you are not.

if you take into account what you want to do and how much you want to spend then it would be a more fair poll.
