I'm reading Aqualogs Polypterus book by Frank Schafer
and in his opening statement he claims that Birchars are not a popular aquarium fish and never will be.
I dispute this point as I have a few and I know many of you guys have some to (beblondie has too many :p )

so with that in mind please list what Birchars you have.
Note for this topic the definition of birchar is any polypterus species and e.calabaricus (even though they are not 'true' bichars)

ok I have
1x P.senegalus
1x P.ornatipinnis
1x P.delhezi
1x P.polli
1x p.sp.goldust (although I suspect it to be a p.weeksii)
5x e.calabaricus

OK....you asked for it. :D

I currently have:

2 X Erpetoichthys calabaricus
1 X Polypterus bichir lapradei
2 X Polypterus delhezi
1 X Polypterus endlicheri congicus
1 X Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri
2 X Polypterus mokelembembe (pictured as Polypterus retropinnis in the Aqualog book but recently reclassified by Schliewen and Schafer)
2 X Polypterus ornatipinnis
2 X Polypterus palmas buettikoferi
1 X Polypterus palmas palmas
1 X Polypterus palmas polli
1 X Polypterus retropinnis (pictured as Polypterus sp. 'Congo' in the Aqualog book but recently reclassified by Schliewen and Schafer)
4 X Polypterus senegalus (2 'normal' and 2 albino)
1 X Polypterus weeksii

Note that I do not agree with Schafer's elevation of many of the recognized subspecies to species level and that is reflected in my list above.

The Aqualog Polypterus book is an excellent (though expensive) resource for the dedicated bichir keeper but some of Schafer's taxonomic decisions are not shared by many bichir 'experts'.

There should be no mistaking between Polypterus sp. 'Gold Dust' and Polypterus weeksii. If you can post a picture I'll be more than happy to tell you which one you have.

I have...

1x Albino Senegal Bichir

Sure... not exactly the most on the fourm...

Bichirs are oddballs. I just had to get an odder one, hence the albino.

All i have is an ornate and a delhezi

5 X polypterus endlicheri endlicheri!
2 X polypterus bichir lapradei!
2 X polypterus delhezi!
1 X polypterus retropinnis!
1 X polypterus ornatipinnis!

Only 2 senegals right now, one regular and one albino. Making rmore room for saltwater, otherwise i'd be more into them.

Fruitbat! Haven't seen you around in a LONG time :p.

only one polypterus bichir lapradei for me, it was sold as a marble

soon to add to the collection is an ornate and a marble

1 x 8 inch senegal
1 x 4 inch delhezi
1 x 4 inch palmas polli( i think )
